FISH BAY, Tortola, VI- Acting Commissioner of Police (CoP) Jacqueline E. Vanterpool has said she has not yet reapplied for the CoP position.

Speaking on The Big Story on JTV Channel 55 on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, Acting CoP Vanterpool said since 2021, she has acted as Commissioner of Police about eight times.

Coming from a big family in Virgin Gorda, Acting CoP Vanterpool said it was always her dream to become a police officer, a passion that was fueled more by life’s circumstances.

The recruitment process for a CoP was started last year; however, it was abruptly stopped when Governor Daniel Pruce said he would await the release of the second volume of the law enforcement review, which would give more direction in hiring a new top cop.

The review was released earlier this month, and the vacancy announcement for CoP was published again last week.

The deadline for submission is May 30, 2025.

Disappointed but not frustrated

Acting CoP Vanterpool has been acting since October 2024 and said she applied last year for the position and was scheduled for an interview that never took place since it was cancelled.

“I was a bit disappointed, yes, frustrated no, but disappointed because you have an expectancy to be interviewed in the process, and then it was cancelled.”

She also said Governor Pruce personally informed her of the re-advertising of the position.

“I got a number of calls, and my response is as the Lord leads,” she revealed.

“Has he led?” Richards asked.

“Not as yet, as the Lord leads. He will lead me and guide me, I will take his instructions,” Acting CoP Vanterpool responded, “My desire as a cop and enjoying my job has not changed. I enjoy going to work every day… It’s my passion and my drive.”

She said putting on her uniform every day brings her joy.

Many people, including those in public office, have come out to support Acting CoP Vanterpool for the position.

Ms. Commissioner (Acting) while you are still in charge please make Lower Estate road a two-way street again. There is no reason for persons to be using a drivable section of the government road as their permanent parking spaces, a car wash and storage for boats and equipment. The improper road usage causes traffic congestion and it affects many residents on a daily basis, especially this week when the road across from the police station was being fixed. Thank you in advance for addressing and fixing this issue.

and while you're at it please address the car wash in the parking lot on Wickham's Cay next along with the taxi stand in town with about 100 safaris, derelict coasters plus their personal use vehicle. Well Ms L. Smith we in the district have been watching the mess going on for too long. its time to clean up road town

The commissioner has already been chosen, and all of us need to relax and wait to see who it is. Who it for it for.

In 2025 and we have grown people talking this bul****? I have nothing against GOD and Religion but waiting for God to lead? This is someone we want leading our law enforcement? You either think you are fit for the job and want it or you're not. What's God supposed to tell you? You are Acting Commissioner now, always showed an interest in the job and now what? The reason that you are Acting Commissioner now isn't GOD? So, isn't he leading you? You are right there doing the job so why not hold the substantive post? I am really confused when people make these kinds of statements "waiting for God".... GOD has already put you in a position to succeed, stop with the cop out nonsense.

ACoP Jacqueline Vanterpool if you don’t apply you and others are playing into Mount Olympus hands, giving it the excuse that no qualified local apply. Apply and force them to show their true colors, force them to choose. Their plan is to frustrate locals who are divided and willing to support John Bull candidates over their qualified own. Mount Olympus is aware that the local population is divided and exploit the division. I remember former UK-appointed Gov John Rankin flippingly, gleefully quipping that locals can only muster a handful of people to protect an issue,ie,, the COI recommending that the BVI constitution be suspended and UK direct rule instituted. The bloat was right, for the Great March of November 1949 had 1500 participating from a wide cross section of the territory. Today,, though and issue struggle to draw ten people. People want change but no one want to fight, sacrifice. They will wait till it is gone to cry rivers of tears about what happened. Ah yu stay waiting for yur neighbor to fight the battles when the neighbor too is waiting on you. Stand up and fight.
