VIslander Morey Wright Jr running for State Rep in Florida, USA
On June 8, 2020, Mr Wright Jr qualified to run in the August Democratic Primary and will be aiming to go to the Florida House of Representatives where he will represent the cities Pembroke Pines, Davie, Weston and SW Ranches in South Florida.
East End/Long Look lad
Mr Wright Jr was the first of six children in his family and spent his early childhood growing up in East End, before relocating to Long Look as a teenager. He attended the Willard Wheatley Primary School where he graduated salutatorian in 1996 and is a 2001 graduate of the Elmore Stout High School (ESHS).
The son of Denise Thomas and Stepson of Baldwin George, Mr Wright Jr is currently polling second in fundraising and will perhaps be the first Virgin Islander elected to office on US Mainland.
He holds a Bachelor's in business from University of Florida and Master's in Business and Master's in Government from John Hopkins University.
Credentials
Mr Morey Jr, who previously told VINO one of his fondest childhood memories in the Virgin Islands is visiting Salt Island where he spent holidays with his grandmother and his great aunt, is a former Aide to the Democratic Leader of US Congress and the Democratic Nominee for Governor of Ohio.
Morey Wright Jr is regarded as a proven innovator, experienced problem solver, technologist, and entrepreneur.
"As an entrepreneur I see myself pursuing a calling, and that calling is improving the everyday lives of others through entrepreneurship. Seven years ago, it was improving the lives of seniors, now it’s helping former non-violent prisoners rebuild their lives. So in essence, I can’t say what title I see myself with 10 years from now, I just see myself improving the lives of my fellow human beings and whatever title I have in pursuing my calling then so be it,” Mr Wright Jr had told Virgin Islands News Online in July 2015.
Five years later Mr Wright Jr is closer to making a positive difference in the lives of people as an elected representative in South Florida.
