After 4 mths on medical leave, FS Frett returns to work
Mr. Frett was at the time attending a function at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Paraquita Bay when he took ill. The full extent of his medical condition was not known at the time; however, he was later hospitalised due to his situation.
After medical attention and therapy, Mr Frett, who was confirmed as the FS in 2022, is expected to return to his post today, Monday, August 26, 2024.
Serious times in VI
The FS is returning to work at a most difficult time, when the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) placed on the people by the United Kingdom has set the Virgin Islands many years backward, according to Opposition Legislators, and has caused poverty to increase because of the new rules.
He is also returning to work at a time when the Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) was allegedly not told, until after the fact, of an almost $20M shortfall in new salary raises for civil servants. In addition, millions and millions of dollars are being used by taxpayers to pay for the CoI and UK police officers, leaving little or no money for critical services like water, roads, healthcare, and education.
The country is also, for the most part, at a standstill in the public sector, with a new Procurement Act that is regressive and will cause more small contractors to go under. The Premier promised to return the Bill to the House of Assembly for amendments.
FS Frett is expected to be ok
Mr Frett, a Virgin Islander, is expected to have a full recovery, according to family members familiar with his conditions.
