VI U-17 boys beat SXM 4-0 in Concacaf opening match

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica- The Virgin Islands (VI) U-17 football team beat Sint Maarten, 4-0, in the opening match of the 2025 Concacaf Men’s U-17 Qualifiers on Friday, February 7, 2025.

The match took place at the Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica. 

Team VI is in Group B with Sint Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, and Guyana.

and the winner of the group at the end of all the games will secure a spot in the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. 

2 new additions score big for VI 

Midfielder Sam Sharma scored the team’s first goal.  

“I feel really proud to have been able to scored on my debut,” Sharma said in a post-match interview adding, “I’ve been part of a community so to be able to support these boys for the community that let me in with the golden assist makes me feel really happy about myself.”

Defender Luca Studdard, another new addition to the team said, “I’m buzzing, it’s a good win…Big three points to start the tournament off with I thin it really sets the tone for the rest of the tournament.” 

Studdard scored 2 goals for the team. 

Meantime, Team Captain and Forward Latriel Williams also scored one goal. He called the match and win a good result for the team. 

“We all went out and compete like the coaches said, work as a team, come together we want to acheive more so me persoanlly as we got four goals and three points, we get to go home, recover, work on the next game tournament,” he said in his post-match interview. 

The VI boys will face the host country Costa Rica, in their next match on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
