VI record thrilling win over Belize @ CONCACAF U20 Qualifiers
After an inspiring performance against Cuba on Sunday, the Virgin Islands went all the way to victory in their game against Belize on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
Thrilling match
In what was described as the most thrilling match of the day, the [British] Virgin Islands conceded early but rebounded to top Belize 4-3.
Azarni Callwood (38’, 45’+2) netted twice, including the equaliser after Cuba struck first blood through Jaheim Mena in the 16th minute. Callwood now has three goals in the championships.
The VI were then ahead 2-1 after Curtis Lane (40’) found the back of the net and then led 3-1 at halftime after Callwood struck in added time.
Belize fought back; however, to level the game through Isaac Taegar (54’) and Felix Martinez (58’).
Victory would go to the VI; however, as Johari Lacey scored the winner in the 70th minute.
VI vs Anguilla on Thursday
The VI play their final Group A match against Anguilla from 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Anguilla lost 0-5 to hosts Nicaragua in the other Group A match on Tuesday.
