PORT PURCELL, Tortola, VI— As firstly and accurately reported by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) in August 2024, Mrs Natasha J. Chalwell has been appointed Deputy Director of Tourism for the BVI Tourism Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC).

She holds a B.Sc. in International Tourism Management with a concentration in Marketing and Public Relations and an Associate’s degree in Hotel & Resort Management.

It added that her deep-rooted experience in the VI’s hospitality and marine industries, combined with her extensive network of industry relationships, positions her as a strategic leader in advancing the Territory’s global tourism profile.

Mrs Chalwell’s appointment is one of three recent strategic hires aimed at strengthening the BVITBFC’s leadership team to navigate the evolving international tourism landscape, the release continued.

Joining her are Ms Odelcer Hanley who was appointed General Manager for the United Kingdom, and Ms Feliza D. Fenty, the new International Marketing Manager.

Recent accomplishments

Mrs Chalwell served as Director of Marketing at the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA), where she established and led the authority’s marketing department, spearheading a transformative rebranding initiative that significantly boosted visibility and stakeholder engagement.

Her efforts were instrumental in the record-breaking recovery of the VI’s cruise industry post-COVID, with cruise arrivals reaching new heights in 2023.

Mrs Chalwell previously held a key role with the BVI Tourist Board, where she directed multiple high-impact international marketing campaigns, effectively enhancing the BVI’s standing as a premier Caribbean destination.

Role as Deputy Director of Tourism

Mrs Chalwell as Deputy Director of Tourism will assist the Director in developing, implementing, and overseeing a broad range of tourism marketing strategies.

This includes managing the creation of the Board’s annual Marketing Plan, fostering partnerships within the regional and international tourism industries, and supporting the Board's operational goals.

Director of Tourism, Mr Clive L. McCoy said they are thrilled to welcome Mrs Chalwell back to the board.

“Her wealth of experience and extensive industry knowledge will be invaluable as we work together to shape the future of BVI tourism,” he said.

It’s astonishing to see how many layers of bureaucracy have been piled onto what would amount to a small-cap firm in the private sector, with a budget of perhaps $10 million. You’ve got a Chairman, a Deputy Chairman, a Director, a Deputy Director, a Manager, a Manager of Special Events, and who knows how many more. The sheer amount of paperwork flying back and forth must make it a miracle that anything gets accomplished at all. Meanwhile, there are businesses managing $200 million without this bloated structure. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

What an assinine statement. This has nothing to do with wanting to be friends. She has a terrible personality. Let's hope she will make an impact.
