MIAMI, Florida, USA- US Prosecutors wanted former Premier of the Virgin Islands Andrew A. Fahie to be sentenced to about 20 years in relation to his conviction on cocaine smuggling and money laundering charges; however, United States District Judge Kathleen M. Williams settled on 11 years in prison today, August 5, 2024.

Mr Fahie is expected to appeal the sentencing.

Judge Williams opted for a more lenient punishment on Fahie, 53, although acknowledging his “violation of the public’s trust”.

“What’s clear is that Mr Fahie lost his way and got involved in this scheme,” Williams said.

The sentencing hearing to was attended by Mr Fahie’s wife, two daughters and a few other supporters.

Mr Fahie chose not to address the judge, declaring to the court that he was advised by his lawyers to not speak since they plan to appeal his trial convictions.

His lawyers have to wait until 14 days from the sentencing date to appeal.

More details to follow.

@ resident. He cannot get life for drug deals. He did not commit any murder, even if he was in the business that caused others to get murdered.

Don't be surprised if he isn't still getting paid his salary to this day. He must have the money to appeal if he is appealing. Furthermore, the government still will have to pay his pension and extra monies as he is a politician. I bet the law did not speak about a politician not getting money after conviction. #Greedybill

@ Britain got the green light. Be VERY careful what you wish for. I feel so ashamed. You are fully brainwashed so there is no telling you otherwise. If you only knew the history of the U.K., you would be shaking in your boots. You would become a SLAVE to anything they want to do to you. I feel sorry for anyone who has never taken the time to read about the history of the Slave Trade all over the world. A complete takeover means your freedom, your land, your outbursts of thought, just everything you enjoy now would be GONE! I am Persian and my people are free of Slavery, but you have no idea what your people have been through and can go through again.

You are “Persian and my people are free of Slavery”. Seriously? Persia is now known as Iran and the Iranian people are comprehensively enslaved by the Mullahs in every aspect of their daily lives. And if they steps out of line, death - for a single example see this https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2024/apr/24/iranian-women-violently-dragged-from-streets-by-police-amid-hijab-crackdown

@thankjah, another ignorant comment (not surprising given the source). In the US federal penitentiary system, there is no parole; time off for good behavior (and it has to be pristine) is 54 days per year, so if he is an angel, he'll get a reduction of roughly 600 days, or approximately 1 year and 8 months. I'm not sure if the sentence includes credit for time served, but likely it does not.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
His sentence should include credit for time served inclusive of his time under house arrest while out on bail. He was not a free man during those times, and had to wear an ankle bracelet and under home confinement as a condition of his bail. In essence he has been in federal custody or under federal supervision for two years plus which will deducted from his overall sentence.

Its like they spent so much money to destabilize the territory and set him up that they have to continue to the very end. Is it a coincidence he's sentenced on parade day? hmmmm

I’m glad that he will serve some time but still be able to see the light of day again but something isn’t right here…The power of prayer? The Senegal man? A UK master plan?

I cannot feel sorry for corrupt people in a business that gets others killed so they can get rich. Serve your time. You have many years to think about what you have done and fallen from GRACE.

11 yra is a win. 3 already gone; with good behaviour and as a teacher in Prison. He will be out in 3 yrs.. Nothing wrong with appealing if he has the money. All the appeal will do if he wins, is order a new trial which will be more money .He has to look at all his options..
    • Tongue Fu (06/08/2024, 11:26) Like (3) Dislike (0) Reply
      @ He just won
If only it were that simple. Buju served 7 out of his 8 years sentence so he will serve at least 10 and no he does not get any credit as he was out on bail. Probably the reason why he is appealing his conviction as to possibly get a mistrial judgement and a new trial or to have them rule that he cannot be prosecuted again. He is not appealing his sentence so i don't believe they can adjust that if he is appealing his conviction. What is unbelievable is that Oleanvine got 9 years and 4 months and she cooperated while Andrew got 11 years and did not cooperate. Make that make sense. For those who said he did then why appeal? Will Oleanvine cooperate should there be a re-trial?

This is such a sad day for the BVI. A day when the island is in full force celebrating its emancipation, its freedom. Here is it that our former premier is faced the arm of the law in a conspiracy charge and sentenced to a federal prison in the USA. There is no celebration in this as this is a slap in the face of the people of the BVI. I hope we as a country can raise up after this. Time for a changed BVI!
