‘Amicable solution’ reached with Chalwell family for road works to continue- Gov’t

The Chalwell family had actively protested the use of its family property for a stretch of roadway in Hodge’s Creek on Tortola, going as far as putting down wooden poles on the disputed area on February 24, 2025.
The stretch of land runs about 800 feet along the shoreline between the former Pussers East and Hodge’s Creek Marina and includes a section of the current roadway.
Government in a press release late February 25, 2025, said, following a meeting with the Chalwell family, the Ministry of Communications and Works “can announce that an amicable solution has been reached regarding the erection of a fence related to the road works in Hodge’s Creek.”
According to the press release, the agreement will allow for the continuation of the road works project, which will include the rehabilitation of the existing sidewalks and the installation of new drainage systems, enhancing the overall infrastructure of the area.
Gov't apologises to Chalwell family
“The Government acknowledges and apologises for any deficiencies in its Departments' approach that may have contributed to the concerns raised by the Chalwell family.
“The Ministry of Communication and Works recognises the family’s cooperation and understanding in this matter and remains committed to ensuring that all future developments are conducted with open and transparent communication,” the press release stated.
One of the Chalwell family members, Clyde K. Chalwell, confirmed to our News Centre that an agreement had been reached with the family.
The Chalwell family had said they were not interested in selling the property but were still waiting on the government to address the matter with them.
Meanwhile, the press release stated that the Ministry of Communication and Works will continue to work closely with the Chalwell family and other stakeholders to ensure that the road project progresses smoothly and benefits the community as a whole.

Many believe that wrong is strong, but right is weak. No, no, no, my friends and enemies, and others, it is the other way around. Right remains forever strong. No one, God being excluded, is wrong our right about all things, only some.
