BRONX, New York, USA- Police in New York arrested one man in the shooting death of Virgin Islands native Trevor Hughes.

According to media reports from the United States, 46-year-old Lavar Davis was arrested and charged with Hughes’ murder.

Argument over blocked driveway

Just before 2:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2025, police say Hughes, 49, who worked as a locksmith and DJ, got into an altercation with Davis and another man when upon returning home from a gig to find their vehicle blocking his driveway.

Hughes' neighbour Akmell Edwards told the New York Daily News he could not believe the suspect claimed he couldn’t see the driveway, which is clearly marked.

“[The suspect] said he doesn’t see a driveway…How you don’t see a driveway when there’s a whole gate there?” he said.

He also described Hughes as always smiling and “willing to take the shirt off his back to help anybody”.

“Hughes had already called 311 and the local precinct after he discovered a car blocking his driveway on Fowler Avenue near Morris Park Avenue in Morris Park. The confrontation took a turn when two men who had been partying at a nearby nightclub returned to the illegally parked car,” New York Daily News reported.

Police searching for second shooter

Police have said that witnesses said both men fired bullets at Hughes, one of which struck Hughes in the abdomen. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Jacobi Medial Center.

The second shooter has not been found and police are still searching for the individual.

Davis’ arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending late Sunday, news reports said.

Its a shame there's too many uneducated black men in this world. We strive too much on ignorance black on black crime. The Willie Lynch Syndrome have us all as IDIOTS. Don't blame the white man. President Trump is doing a great job.

If he called the police why did he take matters into his own hands. I will bet any money all parties was drinking. This is what happens with alcohol it's changes some people's mind. Some are funny, some are happy, some are abusive, and some act crazy. Alcohol is called the devil's drink. I am not saying they was drinking but if they was this played a major role along with the side effects of the COVID-19 chip vaccine

I will never understand how a person gets the courage to pull a gun, shoots another person then run and hide. Keep the same energy and face the "music".

When you call the Police in NY if they don’t think it is a real emergency they take their time getting to the location. But if they heard that shots were fired, they will be racing to the scene. The alleged shooter was out on Lifetime Parole for killing somebody else years ago. Now I guess he will be going back up the river for the rest of his life. He should not have been released in the first place..Condolences to the family of the young man that lost his life. Senseless murder..

Just as his neighbor said; he was always smiling.

That's how I remember him...haven't seen him in over 25 years. Now, this.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Stop trying to blame the man when he was the victim. Drinking people should leave their firearm at home they had to be drunk because the cameras are pointing to the driveway. Why run they already did themself in with the liquor.
