BRONX, New York, USA- One Virgin Islands native was shot and killed in the United States in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025.

The man has been identified as 49-year-old Trevor Hughes who resided in the Bronx, New York.

Shot over a parking spot

News reports say Hughes was shot in the stomach following a alleged heated argument over a parking spot at around 1:54 AM at 1735 Fowler Avenue, within the confines of the 49th Precinct in the Bronx.

First responders responded to the call of the shooting, and Hughes was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two men are wanted in connection with his death. They were last seen leaving the area in a Jeep SUV.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.

I am in utter shock, I work the overnight shift in the emergency room at Jacobi Medical center. I was in shock that one of my fellow men from Tortola was gunned down over a parking space.It is not worth your life arguing over a parking spot. My condolences to his family.

  I understand what you are saying. One thing about living in NYC. You cannot be arguing with anyone . You just have to bite your tongue and leave it alone and let it be. About a month ago in Harlem a postal worker in uniform on his lunch break was stabbed to death while arguing with another customer in a bodega over who was first in line over a sandwich.

My deepest condolences to the deceased family and friends. I’m sorry this happened and hope they catch the perpetrators. However, could this be a case of entitlement? Warring over nothing. I worked with Trevor. He’s the nicest, hardest working guy I’ve ever met. He was a great father, and an awesome friend. We’re a small company. He’s going to be deeply missed, he was like family. May he rest in peace.

In my opinion most of these comments are unnecessary. No one really knows the motive behind this crime and instead of jumping to your own conclusions I think you should rather extend sympathy to the bereaved family. Long ago we were trained to keep your mouth shut if you didn’t have something good to say. I really think that it need to be practiced with a sense of urgency. Reading these blogs really makes me cringe sometimes, in fact mostly. An innocent man was gunned down over a parking space dispute and instead of sending your condolences to the family who must be totally devastated over this senseless act, we are trying to justify this by saying that he must have mouthed off on the person(s) and in some way caused this? Well, I live in a world that I know is ruled by the evil one, but we could at least keep our mouths shut if our reasoning is skewed. There is no reason, and I repeat, no reason for someone to shoot someone over a doggone parking spot, disputed or otherwise. Move your vehicle if you are blocking someone's driveway and go about your way. The reasoning beneath this very sad story should give us all pause. For you walk around each day and come into contact with persons who are carrying their weapons and ready to shoot just because they have the tool to do it and they cannot control their temper. So you who thinks that there is justification for this mess, may God go with all of you.

I would like to say to Trevor's family, our sincere condolences for the right thinking people of these British Virgin Islands and please forgive the foolish ones, blogging on this post, who are wrongly blaming others for maybe mouthing off and talking too much when they are doing the very same thing in these blogs. Our prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Trevor did everything correct. He called the local authorities to report the vehicle that was blocking his driveway. He went as far as showing the perpetrators that they were indeed blocking his driveway by opening the gate to the driveway. Condolences to his family and friends.

I am in NY and I read the article in the paper and saw it on TV. It said he was coming home from work in the early morning hours and the guys who shot him was parked in his driveway. He asked them to move and that’s what the argument was about. There is a nightclub down the block and people double and triple park on the block which causes problems with the residents of the neighborhood. So it wasn’t unusual to be asking someone to not block your driveway..I know the area quite well. One of my ex-coworkers lives in the neighborhood…So it was not like a regular parking space,it was the guy’s driveway. Nothing like coming home late at night and someone is blocking your driveway and no place for you to park. I hope they are caught and dealt with accordingly..

Records show that the Latinas and Blacks are arriving and is now a small percentage in Mt Morris.
Sadly ,we have experienced likewise in the BVI.
Zero murder rate for zillion years but that changed with the first load of the CARICOM refugees.
At least a 100 unsolved murders to date and from no locks on our doors to bolts , screens and triple locks.
