VI’s T.B. Lettsome Airport now second busiest route for Puerto Rico
According to March 3, 2024, stats shared by Simply Flying, a leading independent voice for aviation news and insight, Beef Island, just off the main island of Tortola, the airport is linked to San Juan by three carriers.
Cape Air operates up to nine daily links between the two airports, located 96 miles apart. Despite the number of frequencies, the airline transports the least number of passengers on the route due to the 9-seat capacity of its Cessna 402s.
With three daily flights (two on Tuesdays), interCaribbean Airways is the second-busiest carrier on the route. Flights are operated by a mix of the airline's ATR-42s and Embraer E190s.
Silver Airways follows close behind with 86 departures this month using a mix of ATR 42s and 72s.
Increased tourism in VI
The flight stats coincide with the VI’s tourism expansion plan under Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) for both business and leisure travelers to increase their visits to the VI.
The stats do not include new direct service between Miami and the Virgin Islands (VI) via American Airlines (AA) and its double flight.
AA launched its historical daily direct flight service between the VI and Miami on June 1, 2023, which resulted in high demands, leading the airline schedule five additional flights for the month of June even before its inaugural flight took place.

Ask everyone
WHAT £$^%&*!!!!!! Cape Air takes a whopping 90 ppl a day at peak...One jet from anywhere else eclipses that. Stop feeding people bulls*** and let us develop our airlift capabilities ASAP!
- no screens with information on arrivals and departures
- drunk and rude taxi drivers
- incompetent and slow immigration
But cape air can do better and invest in 30 seater planes to move three times as much passenger in one flight. with a 8:30 plight and a 11: 00 clock flight in the morning Cape air could be moving up to 70 passengers before Silver got their first out of the island. I guess by keeping seat availability down price can be kept artificially high for larger profits.
