ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands’ (VI) Rules of Criminal Procedure are being reviewed by the Criminal Justice Advisory Group.

Governor Daniel Pruce told JTV Channel 55’s Cathy O. Richards an episode of the Big Story on December 10, 2024, he chairs a monthly meeting with the group, bringing together all parts of the VI’s criminal justice system.

“That is already delivering greater connectivity between those agencies…What we’re looking to achieve is a smooth end-to-end process,” the Governor said.

The review of the Rules of Criminal Procedure he explained is to ensure that when a case comes before the Court, it is handled and processed as efficiently as it should be.

“People say justice delayed is justice denied and I think we could all accept there is progress for us to make in still ensuring the proper and correct administration of justice but doing so more efficiently,” he added.

The process has been positive- Governor Pruce

Meanwhile, the meetings of the Criminal Justice Advisory Group according to Governor Pruce have been positive for all involved.

“We all [have] the same ambition, we want to deliver the same outcome. Through the revision of the rules, we’re able to take a systematic approach,” he said.

In the months ahead, the group will continue the revision. Governor Pruce added the system is not just about the police or arresting people.

“It’s going through the whole criminal justice process and critically it’s also ensuring that the prison serves the interests of the wider community as well,” the Governor stated.

Close the borders to countries and entry of those whose origin
    precludes a propensity for crime..
Be mindful that said countries are not necessities for our needs but rather contributors to the decline of quality of life and economy of these VI but rather, An unnecessary financial economic and social burden.
