ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has announced an Inaugural Territorial Address scheduled for May 16, 2024, when his Government will detail its accomplishments and more as part of the Virgin Islands Party's (VIP) first anniversary in office.

Premier Wheatley in a statement on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, said his government will discuss its past accomplishments and present goals; ideas on solving the VI's challenges, celebrating accomplishments and how to put its best foot forward as it continues to work towards, “Building a Sustainable Nation”.

Laying the groundwork for success

“I assure the people of the Virgin Islands that we are guided by a strong and clear vision. We have passed a National Sustainable Development Plan. We are now dedicating the resources to transform that Plan into a series of practical steps which will move us from plans to progress. We are laying the groundwork for sustained excellence over time.”

He said like many small territories, the VI faces a long road of hard work ahead, “I stand before you today with a steadfast belief in our ability to not only complete this work but also to continue as a leader among nations.”

He said the VI is prepared to take the essential steps to prioritise its greatest asset, human resources, and foster its continued confidence in leadership.

People first

“I say this with a heart full of admiration and appreciation. My people have a proven historical record to withstand. We have a reputation for trail-blazing freedom, and overcoming adversities in the wake of man-made and natural disasters. We are a people who have rebuilt and transformed our society with our heads held high,” he added.

The Premier said resilience in the VI is collectively demonstrated on a day-to-day basis as the people of the territory press towards development across social, economic, and political spheres while simultaneously equipping themselves to be world-class citizens.

“For this reason, my confidence in my government and the people of the Virgin Islands is reinforced and amplified. My administration pledges to continue to deliver for the people of the Virgin Islands through strategic national transformation,” he said.

And say is his Civil service. We have managers, supervisors, well paid " Senior staff to ensure proper and professional dispensing of services..Not always telling the customers when they seek information we will call you just to brush them off and never did. As my good Premier you get a "Big Fat Capital F" for service rendered..

Dr. Hon Premier Natalio Wheatley, D-7 and MoF undoubtedly you can put together nice, flowery language speeches about progress and change. However, if people are not feeling the change, the speeches are landing flat and target is being missed. You need to get out from behind of riding the desk and do MBWA( Management by Wandering Around), a concept chronicled by management guru Tom Peter, author of the classic In Search of Excellence. Become a lasting people’s Premier, not a flash in the pan one termer. Get out and mingle, talk directly to the people. Successful leaders do it and well. National Hero and First Chief Minister of the VI Hamilton Lavity Stoutt set an example worthy of emulation, having not lost an election from 1957 to his untimely passing in 1995.

Mr. Premier, Stealth is on point offering you some unsolicited priceless advice and you can brush it off at your own regret, risk, and demise. Stealth is on to something. Your education credentials alone cannot get you through the rough demanding, unforgiving world of politics; some savvy human relations skills are a must. Drop that elitist family trait and be down, keeping it real with the people.

To Stealth, mehson you cooking and running on high test, high octane gas. This is priceless advice. It costs the Hon Premier Wheatley, you expended $0 but is getting a great return on investment, delivering more value than $100K+ which are being paid to advisors. Stealth are you a graduate of ESHS and what tertiary institution if any did you attend, and did you study political science? Just curious and want to settle friendly bets.

Find the biggest pot hole. Should not be too difficult. Add a stage for your speech, to be followed by a $ 1 million party paid for by the tax payers most of whom would prefer you fixed the road instead. There’s nothing inaugural about any of this since he was installed some time ago.

That said: Stealth’s advice is golden. I’d also suggest three months or so living on a $2,500 month salary, drive and fix your own used car, having to carry potable water home and deal with the vagaries of BVI Electricity. Get out there and see how the voters live. See how much is left over every month. Alas, none of this will happen, and we will be once again regaled to meaningless puffery from someone in a suit who lives a comfortable life that includes tax payer funded junkets around the world.

or the staged 'arrest' of same person here as a temporary citizen? did he learn how to answer emails or calls?
did he at least give that bottle of Hennesy to the janitor. know wheatgerm ate all the vegetables on his plate.
he'll be joining fahie before long...tee hee.
