ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Government of the Virgin Islands’ led by Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has been receiving praises from regional leaders as well as United Nations representatives for its management of the coronavirus pandemic.

At home, even United Kingdom (UK) appointed Governor John J. Rankin, CMG has given credit where credit is due.

“BVI has done well in terms of keeping the numbers of active coronavirus cases low. We haven’t had the very largescale outbreaks that other countries large and small have seen,” Governor Rankin told host Karia J. Christopher on the Real Talk show aired on May 5, 2021, on Flow TV, CBN Channel 51 and Facebook.

According to Mr Rankin, the VI’s low numbers has been due to actions “that the health authorities have taken here, the government has taken here, but most of all due to the people in the community who have been respectful of the social distancing rules…”

The VI currently has 24 recorded cases of COVID-19; however, it has periodically enjoyed phases of zero active cases.

Meanwhile, Governor Rankin said the UK government has also played its part in the fight against COVID-19 in the VI by providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), testing kits and the AstraZeneca vaccine.

VI’s response a model for Eastern Caribbean

Recently, the Virgin Islands’ response to COVID-19 was presented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a model for the Eastern Caribbean.

The UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative for Barbados and the OECS, Mr Ugo Blanco praised the VI’s leadership in the regional response to the COVID-19 pandemic in remarks at the UN development agency's official virtual presentation of its joint report with ISGlobal.

The report titled, ‘COVID-19 Policy Reports for Recovery in the Eastern Caribbean: Analysis, Scenarios and Considerations for Opening to Tourism,’ was launched on March 30, 2021.

ISGlobal representative, Mr Carlos Chaccour in his presentation on the report, stated that the health and entry protocols adopted by the VI were highly effective in safely reopening and managing its borders to restart the tourism sector.

Okay, but at what cost? Citizens losing their jobs leaving them and their families starving, many expats left, salary cuts, increasing fees, children out of school and flunking, economy plummeted, tourism virtually nonexistent and NO stimulus for the citizens only cronies with businesses.

To look good on paper they let this place crash and burn. I’m sure many others can agree with me when I say that they deserve no praise.

Praise them, pretwnt to love them, then conquer them...Keeping the numbers low good, but the bigger issue is that the government could never find the right balance, they keep changing their positions, their minds, never seem to have a serious going forward plan... Lead me to ask this question who or which organization is the authority on Covid is "WHO" or "CDC"
.Maybe thats what confusing governments all over because these two entities positions are very different...For me I dont think "WHO" Is credible and respected, So, CDC seems to be the appropriate authority to take guidance from..

the CDC is american , the W.H.O is for the world, the CDC has done a piss poor job keeping America safe during the Covid epedemic there. 33,500,000 infected nearly 600,000 dead in the USA

That's how I perceive people who come on social media and trying to insult bloggers calling them idiot for their views when they themselves have their own views,,, I really don't think much of those kind of people,. They have a self-esteem issue,. a Very low one and they are hoping insulting someone will improve it...no it won't it just makes it lower...

@Okay. I totally agree with you on this one. I definitely think they could have done it better. We probably had the lowest numbers in terms of cases but I Guarantee you that we are going to be the last ones to recover economically when all this is over.
