UPDATE: Men charged for breaching curfew & illegal entry into VI


The men have been identified as BVIslander, Tambu Frett along with Bryan Bolan of the USVI who now face charges for Illegal Entry in addition to Breach of Curfew.
Police say the vessel the men were travelling in was intercepted by Marine officers of the RVIPF on April 3, 2020, at about 3:40 pm.
Sources say the police also seized an undisclosed sum of cash after a high-speed chase at sea, however, Frett is facing an additional charge for engaging in smuggling.
Both men are currently in police custody pending their appearance in the Magistrate’s Court.
It is unclear if the men were tested for COVID-19 or placed into quarantine after the illegal trip to the USVI which currently has 40 confirmed cases of the deadly virus.

Two nabbed after illegal trip to USVI
-VI Police seize large sum of cash following high-speed chase @ sea
BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that two men were reportedly nabbed illegally entering the Virgin Islands (VI) after a trip to the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) sometime yesterday, Friday, April 3, 2020.
According to sources, the men had earlier left the Baughers Bay area in a dinghy heading towards St. John when police; acting on intelligence, approached the vessel on its return and signalled for them to stop.
High-speed chase
It was then, that a high-speed chase ensued towards the direction of Norman Islands where police cornered the vessel and discovered the two men along with a large sum of cash.
Sources indicated that one of the men is from the USVI and the other is from the East End area of Tortola. They were both arrested and taken to the Police Marine Based.
This latest illegal departure and entry into the territory comes as the government is instituting extraordinary measures to protect against COVID-19, such as the closure of all borders and a cabinet backed 14-day extended lockdown beginning tonight, Saturday, April 4, 2020.
