BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – Cromwell Smith, aka 'Edju En Ka', the host of the Umoja radio programme, has expressed his concern that the rights of Virgin Islanders have been eroded because the Governor of the Virgin Islands holds the final authority.

Mr Smith made this statement during an edition of Umoja on ZBVI 780 AM on May 21, 2026, when he discussed the Virgin Islands Constitution, as well as issues related to rights, advancement, and violations.

Governor has final say

He pointed out that the governor's final say undermines the impact of any laws that are passed.

He explained that while the governor must assent to laws, if he disagrees with them, he can simply withhold his approval, preventing the law from passing.“Whatever he wants to have happen, happen, regardless of what we do. So, in the sense, he's a unitary, a single person, dictatorship,” Smith further stated.

Smith added, “To say that we have rights to me is increasingly becoming a sham, because the final say, the final approval, the final authority, is the Governor of the Virgin Islands.”

Governor of the Virgin Islands Daniel Pruce is the representative of the British monarch and acts as the de facto head of state.

Appointed by the UK government, the Governor holds specific "reserve responsibilities," while the democratically elected local government manages domestic and internal affairs.

This is a question that they never address.

They have one single focus...get rid of England.

This man is known as Cromwell Smith. If you use that name, everybody knows who you are talking about.
He is not known as Aju En Ka - and everytime he uses that name he also has to give his real name so that persons know who he is.
Presumably he made up Aju En Ka because he thinks it sounds African (although which part of the continent is not clear).
Stop embarrassing yourself and use the name your parents gave you.

Who would really want to carry the name of the oppressor/colonialist Smith?

Edju En Ka is his name of choice. How come it bother you so?

I agree. Because we don't have our own power, we must accept any old racist people they send our way. Sick of this. Independence is the only way to handle this superior mindset they have over us. They can literally send an entire influx of people from the UK and take over every government job.

The system in which we live is corrupt. So until that changed, we will be forever in problems.

Virgin Islanders rights. Is that an oxymoron? BVI self-governing . Is that an oxymoron? Governor of the VI. Is that an oxymoron? The Governor is appointed by the UK and represents the Crown, not the people of the BVI. Virgin Islanders no say in the appointment of the Governor. It is one of the few countries in the world, perhaps, where a local cannot be appointed or appointed governor.King Charles III is the de jure head of state, but the appointed governor is the de facto head of state, brandishing unilateral power, ie, special powers, reserved powers, assent powers, etc. He is the master of all I survey., thriving on power and privilege, etc. Are Virgin Islanders all talk and no action post the Great March of November 1949? Are Virgin Islanders still prisoners to the Wille Lynch conditioning, ie, fear, division, distrust, disunity, appeasement, meritorious manumission, etc. Another blogger noted a while ago that the UK’s governing action can be equated to “ Crusding. “ In 1979, former Chief Minister Willard Wheatley weaned the VI off of grant-in-aid. Currently, taxpayers fund Mount Olympus’, ie, board and lodging, communication, transportation, utilities, entertainment, etc. The UK-appointed Governor controls functions which VI taxpayers pay for, internal security, including RVIPF; Civil Service, HMP, judiciary, etc. Colonialism is about control, exclusion, etc and the functions it exerts direct control over “Screams” control. Furthermore, Mount Olympus is angling to grab control of Customs and Immigration. Virgin Islanders lacks the “ peaceful” fight demonstrated by their forebears, Theodolph Faulkner, Noel Lloyd, P. George, etc. Time for Virgin Islanders to get some stones, some huevos and fight peacefully for their rights, freedoms, etc. It was Fredrick Douglass who asserts, “ if there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Some of us want change but want others to fight to effect change.

Some of us ready to destroy anyone of us who even speak of the colonial bondage that is choking the life out of our little country. Some of us so selfish and greedy that we sacrifice the country for our personal gain. The UK and governor are taking advantage of the greedy selfish ignorant self-defeating morons who worm their way into he seat of power to become the oppressors first line of defense.

Seems a lot of people are confused. It does not help when these commentators have their statements published.

First thing to remember is the VI is not a country. it is a Territory of the UK. The Governor is a representative of the UK powers. The VI does make its own laws and has power to do so but it cannot make laws that contradict UK laws.

That is what our leaders really want. To make laws that suit themselves. Laws that are in place to protect the people.

Pretending that we are not a part of the UK, and that the the Governor is somehow doing something he shouldn't because he is a racist is how they misinform the people Our politicians and media mislead because they want to take the people to Independence not so things are better for us, ONLY but better for them. They do not explain to the people that if that happens and our leaders make laws. laws that they want and that do not work for the people.

The same way our leaders have ignored what the people want with the constitution they are now seeking to change to suit themselves.

Pushing the racist button is all they have in their desperate longing for power.
