Thompson stays cool as BFEC pay the penalty!
The first half had proven slow to ignite the imagination as both teams struggled to get a foot hold on the game and neither defense showed signs of buckling as the possession ebbed and flowed.
The boys from Virgin Gorda had the game’s first golden opportunity when a first time strike from Alton Williams brought out the best of Maxcell Dabreo between the uprights as he diverted the ball away off his post for a corner.
Not to be outdone at the other end Junaane Morton dived full length to his right to stop a goal bound effort from Robert Green.
One of the most experienced ESHS players, Shamoy Thompson finally broke the deadlock and Morton’s resistance in the second half from the penalty spot. That proved to be the only goal of the game.
Morton came off his line to catch a cross, but in doing so was adjudged to have used his elbow to foul Green and Thompson made no mistake from the resultant spot kick ”I ran up to take the shot, and while I was triggering back my foot I saw the keeper made a quick movement guessing where I was placing it,” commented Thompson. “I thought quickly and used it to my advantage, hitting the ball with pace just to the right of centre and it flew in!”
