ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Affirming his Government's commitment to fixing the internet woes of the Virgin Islands, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has encouraged the local telecoms to bring their challenges to the government so that solutions can be created.

"There are a few things I could never understand with certain things, how the internet here could be such a problem. One time one carrier was trying to explain that its the mountainous terrain but they didn't say that when they got their licence," Hon Fahie told the House of Assembly (HoA) on February 27, 2020.

According to the Premier, the consensus was that internet services would be improved; however, the excuse of mountainous terrain is now provided as a hindrance.

"We do more financial services business in here than most countries ten times our size, but yet we have the highest bills and one of the worst internet systems... and we shouldn't feel good about that," Hon Fahie said.

"Bring the Satellites" - Premier Fahie

He said as such, the local Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), now Chaired by Mr Vance M. Lewis and new Deputy Chair Mr Vincent Wattley is being faced with a lot of responsibility to deal with the matter head on.

"If the companies involved cannot get us better internet, and you give them all the chances in the world bring another one, and if that one cannot give us better internet get the satellites," Hon Fahie remarked.

According to the Leader of Government Business, while his methods may sound harsh, he is willing to give the local ISP's another chance.

"You want to see our people and all the companies make it... if it's not working out we have to find how to get it working out, and if the companies that exists here feel like they have an answer and they can get it done, well then tell us what is the problem," Hon Fahie said.

VIP stop running behind these companies who are not improving the internet service but improving price & bring in international internet carriers like AT&T, T-mobile etc. That’s when they will buckle up and fix the problem.

FYI, AT&T is coming to BVI because is buying FLOW. How will that change the lowsy service we get? Hard to say. They're probably thinking that if FLOW got away with it for so long, they can too.

We need international wireless carriers like Sprint & Verizon. Flow, Digicel & CCT all the same with the trash internet. I’m tired of the government talking take action and open the doors to others.

The premier is upset that when he is watching Netflix or playing call of duty. It buffers or lags. Y’all need to understand this goes beyond just being a terrible internet provider. It’s not right watching your favorite Netflix series and the internet is a set back and it is worst playing call of duty and the guy kills you before you ever see him.

Fight premier fight. Internet connection needs to be way better and stronger.

The bad part is you go to the provider you explain to them that your internet is not working they tell you it will work then for the rest of the week they tell you the same thing a whole week passes and the internet does not work then the next day your plan is due before you get a chance to pay your service is disconnected , so you have to pay the full price for another three weeks when you didn’t even get a full months service ,they are robbing us without a mask and getting away and we are taking notice so when we decide enough is enough please don’t cry it’s called payback enough is enough

I don't even get the 'opportunity' to use the 200 gb I pay for per month. When the internet is slow, time and monies fly by, as time is money.
