South African Nicole Prinsloo facing theft, false accounting charges
Nicole Prinsloo was charged with the indictable offences of theft and false accounting and therefore was not required to plea.
As a condition of her bail, her passport, which now is in the custody of the Immigration Department, will be turned over to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
In addition, she has to report to the Road Town Police Station every Wednesday between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.
She is to return to court on October 6, 2016 for the commencement of her trial.
Charges
The court heard that the defendant, on a date between April 15, 2016 and May 15, 2016, collected monies on behalf of her employer of a real estate company in the sum of $750.
The court heard that a receipt bearing serial number 421007 was made out to the person making the payment.
Prinsloo allegedly failed to turn that money over to her employers or informed them that she had collected same.
When it was subsequently discovered that a receipt book could not be found, the virtual complainant asked the defendant about the receipt book and she denied knowledge of it.
However, according to the prosecution, she later told the virtual complainant that she would search her home for the receipt book, arousing suspicion. The court heard that she later returned with the receipt book.
A search of the receipt book allegedly found that a receipt in the sum of $750 had been written up.
The virtual complainant then checked his account and found that monies in the amount of $750 were not accounted for.
When the accused was asked of the transaction she allegedly said it was done by her but that she had no knowledge what happened to the money.
On May 9, 2016 the accused was arrested and cautioned and it was here that she said, “I did not have a chance to clear myself.” She also denied the allegations during the police interview.
Attorney at Law Stephen R. Daniels, speaking on behalf of Prinsloo, said his client is 36 years old and is from South Africa. He said that the woman who lives at Mount Healthy only came to the territory in October 2015.
Media threatened
As this news site's reporter was leaving the court house at John's Hole, Prinsloo inquired as to the reporter’s purpose of being in the courtroom and taking notes.
When the reporter told her who he was, Prinsloo made what could be described as a veiled threat, demanding that her name not be carried in any news report and saying that if she sees her name carried she would take action against the media house.
