BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has said the writing was on the wall ahead of the resignation of Mr Kurt A.G. Menal as Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA).

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) first reported news of the Saint Lucian’s abrupt resignation from the BVIAA on May 7, 2026. Information received indicated that Menal wanted to give his required three-month notice but was told to leave effective immeditely. His contract was renewed in January 2026 for another four years.

During the May 19, 2026, episode of Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM, Skelton-Cline said the Ministry of Communications and Works, under which the BVIAA falls, seemed to have been caught off guard by Menal’s resignation.

“I suspect if the ministry, the PS and others were paying attention, and the chairman or acting chairman of their board were paying attention, they should have seen some of these tea leaves and anticipated.”

What happened?

Skelton-Cline said that with Menal’s contract having just been renewed for another four years, and his resignation coming soon afterwards, “The question is what happened there?”

On the allegation that Menal was told to leave immediately, foregoing the three months as mandated by his contract, by a board member, Skelton-Cline commented, “What kind of arrogance and pomposity? What hubris? You have a leader of a major corporation in your country, trying to build an airport, rebuild what is there, and you just going to let him go.”

He said if he were part of that meeting, he would have instead paused and called the minister responsible and first asked if he was aware of the situation and of any direction from a ministerial or Cabinet position.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with this board. Some of you all, you’ve gone mad.”

Menal was doing a ‘fine job’

Board members, he explained, have an instrument from Cabinet from the relevant minister who serves at the behest of the Premier, who ultimately holds all portfolios.

“If, in fact, you’re not on the same page as the minister on matters of direction, not some illegality, matters of direction of that entity and the course and the manifesto of that nation for which the people elected, then the right thing to do is simply resign. Give the people back their instrument.”

Skelton-Cline added that everyone knows his position; he does not agree with importing resources on some of these positions.

“He was here, and he was doing a fine job,” Skelton-Cline admitted.

Got to be something more, maybe something new service that isn't good. To just ask a managing director with a valid contract for 4 yrs to resign without proper causes, its beyond crazy, its illeteracy, dumb. I don't think these boardmembers fit those description..

Something happened suddenly, prompting Mr. Manal to resign right after he was given another four years. No one walks away from employment that promises to pay your bills for some years to come. His sudden change of mind means something in his contract had changed enough to make him walk away. We will get the answer soon because no secrets are kept hidden for too long in the BVI.

CSC -THE CITY SLICKER . IS SAYING )> MY PEOPLE , AM SADDENED BY SOME OF OUR PEOPLE'S MENTAL CAPACITY ( DISORDER ) THAT WE HAVE ON THE LOOSE HERE IN CERTAIN POSITIONS , AND AS I'VE SAID SOME TIME AGO " WE FRIGGED " / THESE " WHATEVER " REALLY NEEDS SOME SERIOUS MENTAL EVALUATION . I CAN PRAY FOR THEM , (BUT PERSONALLY ) I DON'T THINK I CAN SAVE THEM SPIRITUALLY .

It's a statutory board. Taking direction from a Minister or Cabinet Member would be Ministerial interference with a body which is independent. CSC clearly doesn't understand how governance works, at least under the law, if this is his suggestion.

I totally agree, all BVIAA board members should resign ASAP. They are all useless. Form a new board with fresh new honest members and people with AVIATION KNOWLEDGE.

Never trust anyone. Snakes come in all shapes and sizes so always keep your grass cut low and you can see a person’s face but not the true heart.
