Most of the students and some teachers arrived to school that day donning the territorial fabric and bright smiles! In lieu of the traditional classroom activities, students were treated to story telling by Virgin Islands Stalwart and Published Author Mrs Jennie Wheatley, played Cultural Games and allowed to view a Cultural Artifacts Exhibit.
At lunch time, local drinks flowed generously to cool down the heat and a bit of the excitement; and lunch, which consisted of but was not limited to Fried fish and Johnny Cakes, Baked Chicken, Salt fish with ground provisions, Fungi and Fish and Stewed Mutton, was served to all in attendance.
The afternoon activities did not disappoint attendees and students as a folk dance by visiting students of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School and Steel Pan music set a festive mood.
Shortly after interactive and lively performances were dished out by the Virgin Islands’ very own Algernon Mathavious, Calypso Monarch Sistah Joyce, Shine-I, B’More and Drastic to bring the day’s celebrations to an end.
Speaking to this news site, President of the school’s PTA Adell J. Semper said that the Principal, staff and PTA of the Alexandrina Maduro Primary School extend a hearty “thank you” to all who contributed to make the day a memorable one.
“The event was an educational and fun-filled one, true to our history and evolving culture and truly celebrated this year’s theme,” said Mrs Semper.
