ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Governor Daniel Pruce has said there is room for the United Kingdom (UK) to assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in improving in many areas.

Governor Pruce sat down with Cathy O. Richards of JTV Channel 55 in an airing of the Big Story on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, where he said one of the main concerns brought to him by members of the public in “spontaneous conversation” is that of security, law and order.

“That’s understandable because that’s something that touches all our lives we want to live in a safe and secure environment,” he said.

The Governor opined that there is no single fix to building security in the Virgin Islands (VI) but with several areas working together, he hopes it can be achieved.

Governor Pruce’s mission to build capacity & capability of RVIPF

One of the Governor’s direct responsibilities is the police and prison and he said he has a strong interest in other areas within the law enforcement sector.

“One of the things I am endeavouring to do but working in partnership with colleagues is to help support the efforts of the RVIPF to build capability and capacity to investigate crimes successfully, to be able to bring criminals to justice as well. To that effect I think requires a number of areas of engagement and support.”

The UK he revealed continues to provide practical assistance and training for officers of the RVIPF. A team from the UK’s National Crime Agency he said recently assisted the RVIPF with a financial investigation training.

“There’s also I think a role for the UK to play in terms of assisting the way the force sets its priorities and structures its activity,” the Governor stated.

This summer, the Law Enforcement Review was compiled by His Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary, Fire and Rescue Services. That review consists of several recommendations relating to the police.

RVIPF has made ‘good progress’- Governor Pruce

The RVIPF, Governor Pruce added has beenmaking “really good progress” as he reflected on his eleven months in office as Governor of the VI.

As to the operations of the police force, Governor Pruce said the RVIPF has a good complement of officers.

“I attended myself the passing out of the most recent cohort which was great…and they provide great additional potential in terms of skills and experience they can bring into the police force. So ensuring that resourcing in terms of human resources is where it needs to be is also critical.”

Meanwhile, the Governor said capability in terms of equipment the UK government has also assisted there.

Through UK assistance the Marine Unit’s ability to respond has increased with the provision of vessels and equipment for the officers.

Governor Pruce added, “Ultimately you need to have an approach to each of these areas where the police intervention is required which is coherent where the systems support the frontline and where the partnership with the community is working effectively as well.

Really can you sit on your dog gone throne and be certain of what he has or have not done? If you can can you also help the RVIPF to solve the long list of murder cases.

The UK and its caucasian nationals, both have contributed significantly to the stagnation, destabilization and destruction of the RVIPF, so what would make them want to assist in several areas now? Make it make sense.

Pruce please stop lying to intelligent people. The police force is wholly corrupt. There is a fear in hiring Ms.Vanterpool.

Those white men from UK are jokers, 99% of them coming here, they are they are on an experiment, the come to try and understand, black culture, while pretending that they are so qualified, and are being payed a substantial amount of money over the locals. And the truth is, there is no value for money from these people. And a prime example is the so called Female officer that is least qualified than local senior officers, she has not contributed nothing of substance for the past time she has been here. But the governor had to be a bully over contract extension. Ask around what has she contributed, but confusion. In Bermuda, they are rejecting those so called white uk nationals in their law enforcement arena. They come into your country, try to make you irrelevant and incompetent, to make space for their friends, then next two mornings you seeing a buss load of them.

Price stop putting a spin on things. Those men from the UK already did their time in the UK and come to the Caribbean pretending that they know it all but they are a total failure. They always tell you that they come to solve cold case. I am speaking from experience. You have to teach these guys the job. They do get big salaries accommodated with housing and vehicle allowances. Since the days of Warren these UK officers are a waste of time. In regards to COP position I don’t think Ms Vanterpool is the best person to be in that position. We need an operational person who can tackle the issues we face. One who has a military background. Pruce are looking for people to get money by extending that lady who adds no value to the RVIPF.

A Military background will not help the royal virgin islands police service. Military operations and law enforcement are two different entities.

BVI need a small Coast Guard of about 36 personal to help patrol these waters with a good vessel which is similar to what the other Caribbean islands has for the police that can stay at least 72 to 96 hrs. at sea and two good go fast boats to help intercept when persons are seen in the wrong. persons can be train in Jamacia or Trinidad to master the boats
