VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Despite a late start to the night’s events on Mach 30, 2024, patrons at the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival ‘Glow N’ Fete Night’ which was the official opening night of the %7th festival village, were thoroughly entertained into the wee hours of the morning with musical acts and performances.

Opening at just about 10pm after a 7:00pm scheduled start, the rest of the evening went well as all the artists that performed took the stage in VG for the first time with the crowds singing & dancing.

Ahead of the performances, speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of Tourism Clive McCoy who is also a member of the VG community thanked the organizers and the support staff from the BVITB for what they put together.

“Events like these not only showcase the beauty of our islands but also highlight the warmth and hospitality of our people,” he said while calling for the spirit of easter to be embraced in the community.

Tourists offered warm welcome 

Nineth District Representative and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) said the event has been a great one for the 2024 celebrations and thanked the organisers, while welcoming tourists.

Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) echoed similar sentiments and spoke about the various activities of the 2024 Easter Festival, “I also want to say that it is certainly a privilege to be here with Mr Rupert Vanterpool Sr, because of course a stalwart such as himself, is a big part of the reasons why we had our Virgin Gorda Easter Festival,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Anglican Church present this year’s honoree, Virgin Gorda businessman Rupert “Buck” Vanterpool Sr with a plaque of honour for being a part of the celebrations for years.

The Primer also saluted the late Grace Flax-Walters, whom the community lost recently, “I solute her memory and I say to us let make this the best Easter festival in the memory of Grace Flax-Walters who had so much to do with this and all the other stalwarts over the years who been a part of these celebrations who are no longer with us,” he said.
