PWD appeals for caution on roadways affected by landslides
Landslides have been the main damages caused by category 1 hurricane and have affected both major and minor roads. The Public Works Department has since been working endless hours trying to clear especially the main roads and has called on users of the smaller roads to exercise patience and caution.
Follow an aerial survey of the damages done to the territory by Hurricane Dorian, Deputy Director and Civil Engineer at the Public Works Department Mr Kurt Hodge appealed for caution due to the number of landslides that are evident.
"We are clearing the major roadways and we are working our way up to the minor ones. So for those of you guys that are on the minor roadways I am asking you to have little patience and we will get to your sector within the week or next week.'
He further added, "As we go by we got most of the major roadways cleared and we are working our way up to the smaller ones."
Active ghut clearing underway
Mr Hodge's caution was reinforced by Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), who was seen at Great Mountain, Tortola, working alongside PWD workers in an effort to have an extensively blocked section of the road safely commutable by this morning.
In his appeal, Hon Rymer said, "Motorist, please be careful, working to clean up major landslides on Great Mountain Road. Drive carefully."
In addition to the clearing of the roadways, the first time Government Minister Hon Rymer has been on the ground with PWD supervising and getting his hands dirty clearing major ghuts on the main island. He was recently spotted at one of the main ghuts in Road Town, near to the fire station.
Hurricane Dorian caused lots of debris to enter ghuts across the territory.
Minister for Health and social Development Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) was also present with his expertise in the field, giving advice.
