ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A Spanish speaking preacher who was allegedly caught attempting to burglarise a private dwelling home in Myer’s Estate on November 17 2019, was granted $20,000 signed bail when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in John’s Hole on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

Along with the bail offer, Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin said Miguel Diaz Aquino, 41, who pleaded not guilty to Attempted Burglary and Criminal Trespass charges, must be of good behaviour, meaning he should not re-offend.

In addition, he must report three times a week at the Road Town Police Station every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm and his travel documents are required to stay in police custody.

Allegations of the matter

According to Crown Counsel Annjel X. Flax, the Virtual Complainant (VC) in the matter was attending church at about 9:00 am when her security cameras alerted her that someone was on her property.

The VC then alerted her grandson, who went to the house, which was secured by a gate and padlocked to see what was going on there.

When he arrived, Ms Flax said, he claimed to have seen the defendant wearing a blue shirt over his head and recognised the defendant.

He was also trying to open a sliding glass door situated at the front of the house.

Ms Flax stated that the defendant headed for the back of the house and left the property when he saw the VC’s grandson approaching.

The VC’s grandson and an associate found him hiding behind a wall of the Enis Adams Primary School, located a short distance away and captured him.

The police were called, and he was arrested and brought to the Road Town Police Station.

Searching for a job

Allegations are that when police questioned the defendant, he said he was searching for a job.

However, through an interpreter at the court, he said the owner of the house had hired him, and he was looking for him hence the reason he was at the property.

Nonetheless, the preacher confessed that he did not have permission to be on the property. He also admitted that he used a broom to knock on a window, and he later used a ladder to climb on the same window and attempted to open it.

He is unrepresented and is slated to return to court in November for trial.

Well well well, a so called man of god, doing devils work. He was caught burglarizing, lied about looking for a job, lied about the owner hired him and that is why he was on the property, then confessed he did not have permission to be there. Wow preacher, instead of going to your heaven, seems like you are going straight to your hell! Now, let's see how many of his congregation stick by this fool.

He is NOT the only one preaching and teaching the Bible and doing contrary to the Bible’s teachings and when get caught trying to cover it up. No, he is not the only one.

Many before him were exposed and many after him will be exposed, in God’s perfect timing.

He is not a thief, I know him he is a selfless gentleman, he gives to the poor and destitute, give him a chance he will change, he was in that yard because the holy spirit sent him there to bless the house. Glory Adios.

@ foreigner.....He’s not a thief? Let me get this straight, he wasn’t invited, he climbed her fence, he tried to open the glass window, but got caught hiding by her nephew. So because he didn’t get a chance to get in, he is not a thief? So what were his intentions then? Stop being ignorant!

You hit the nail on its head right here. He would have never made such a move if the property was owned by a man.

Two years to bring to court for a pretty minor offence. Nothing stolen. Nothing broken. Nobody injured. What sort of court system do we have. If he is a preacher and she was at church, why wasnt he?
    • Greg (03/07/2020, 18:11) Like (4) Dislike (0) Reply
@ lodger, it was 8 months ago not 2 years. This was NOT a petty offence as you put it, but a burglary, with the intent to steal, as soon as he climbed her fence. Nothing broken because her nephew stopped him from breaking her window, nobody injured because he never got inside to hurt anyone if they were there. Yes, if he was a preacher, why wasn't he in church? Oh yeah, he was too busy burglarizing this woman's house! He is the worse kind of person telling people to be righteous....HYPOCRITE!
