CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- One of the committee members of One VI Poker Run, Prince-David K. Archer, has described the event's overall success as tremendous, noting strong participation, excellent sponsorship support, and a vibrant atmosphere that highlighted the best of the Virgin Islands.

The boating competition took place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with over 100 boats participating.

According to Archer, the event received positive feedback from both participants and spectators. However, despite its success, it also faced some challenges.

He explained, “As with any large-scale event, coordinating logistics across multiple stops and managing timing throughout the day presented challenges. These were effectively addressed through teamwork, communication, and the dedication of the committee, volunteers, and partners.”

Event continues to grow

Mr Archer noted that participation continued to grow this year, stating, “In addition to more than 100 boats on the water, we estimate that approximately 5,000 people took part in the event. The One VI Poker Run is designed to be inclusive, featuring activities such as a fashion show, an after-party, and games throughout the day, allowing people to engage with the event whether by boat, playing poker, or simply attending the festivities.”

Looking ahead to next year’s event, Archer said, “We’ll continue to review every aspect of the Poker Run to enhance the participant experience, improve logistics, and build on this year’s success. One of the most meaningful aspects of the event is that its proceeds support a community initiative.”

This year’s proceeds will be used to equip the computer room at His Majesty’s Prison. Archer stated that this initiative aims to provide educational and rehabilitative opportunities for inmates, adding, “We’re committed to both growing the event and its positive impact on the community.”

This year, Delice James won the top prize of $8,000, while Alexa Hodge took home the second-place prize of $4,000, and Kennard Dawson secured third place with a prize of $2,000.

Strupes, I’m honestly tired of this mindset.

Too many of us spend more time watching other people’s lives than improving our own. So what if someone wears big chains, lives in a big house, owns a fast boat or enjoys the finer things? They earned the right to live their life the way they choose. Why does that bother you? We all wake up with the same 24 hours. What you do with yours is your responsibility. Stop pocket watching and start purpose chasing.

To the young people, live your life! Travel the world, sail through our beautiful British Virgin Islands, chase your dreams, make memories and enjoy every season of life. Don't let anyone shame you for living fully.

The truth is, some of the loudest critics are simply unhappy with where they are in life. Instead of celebrating others, they focus on tearing them down. But someone else’s success or happiness doesn’t take anything away from you.

At this point, I don't understand why we're still so invested in other people's business. Life is too short to spend worrying about how someone else chooses to live. If it doesn’t affect your life, let people be. Focus on yourself, nurture your own goals and water your own grass. That’s where your energy belongs.

why you take it as negative connotation and not being our archetype. "The reason why we like this—this jewelry and this diamonds and stuff—they don't understand, it's because we really from Africa. And that's where all this stuff come from. And we originated from kings, you know what I'm saying? So don't look down on the youngsters because they wanna have shiny things. It's in our genes, know what I'm saying? We just don't all know our history, so…"
