ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Norwegian Jade, a cruise ship under the Norwegian Cruise Line brand, has added 5 calls to the Virgin Islands (VI) following the cancellation of some of its calls to the territory scheduled for May and June.

The cancelled calls were scheduled for May 16, May 23, May 30, June 20, and June 27, 2024, under the Norwegian brand, however, the Norwegian Jade will now make up for the cancellations.

According to information from the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), Jade will call to the VI on June 11, June 25, July 9 and 23 and on August 6, 2024.

Sources at the BVIPA told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that the cancellations had nothing to do with the VI tourism product.

Misinformation was spread about cancellations

Some persons in the VI had erroneously suggested that the cancellations were a result of the cruise line having no interest in the territory.

The source added that the ship cancellation had absolutely nothing to do with Norweigan's distaste or any concerns with the VI product as another ship from the same line is now making calls to the territory.

Meanwhile, 2025 cruise tourism numbers in the Virgin Islands are projected to break historical records, according to Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5).

The Minister shared the projection during an interview with the Government Information Service (GIS) at the recent Seatrade Cruise Global 2024, in Miami, Florida.

“The BVI is desired. The BVI is a place where the cruise industry wants to come to the BVI and we are happy to try to facilitate that,” he said in the interview shared by GIS on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

“The numbers already coming in for 2025 will surpass those that we have seen anytime in our history,” Hon Rymer had shared.

Let the haters take that the bvi remains the number 1 destination

Just think what a great attraction the BVI would be if the infrastructure was improved, and tourist attractions were created and advertised (similar to other islands in the Caribbean!)

@BviBuzz. I 100% agree. I've heard tourists complain about our bad roads hurting their backs. Some asked where the entertainment is and shopping. We do have tourist shopping but hardly any entertainment when they dock except Pier Park. A couple of Beach Bars are blasting their music so loud, that they get headaches, which is definitely no fun. Too loud music is NOT soothing to the soul. Without naming certain bars, I hope you restaurant/bar owners are reading this.

Monitor the manifests and make everyone who disembarks returns to the ship. 100% accountability

This ship (Norwegian Jade) departs from the U.S. (Port Canaveral), so there's no issue with passengers jumping ship here in Tortola in an effort to get to the U.S.! The previous ship embarked form the Domincan Republic (Punta Cana), so non-U.S. folks wanting to be smuggled into the States could get into the D.R. via non-U.S. flights, and "disappear" here!

Why don’t they build another cruise ship dock next to that one so can have 3 to 4 ship at one time an can also hold the biggest cruise ship look at other countries investing

Where in west Smells? Do you mean the smoke from the dump? I recently moved from town after living east and the only bad smell in West End, is the toxic smoke from the dump.

Don't forget to tell the tourists and visitors they have to register their money with the RVIPF and every one else who is a Belonger. It has to be counted and proper 'squeeze' taken out, or all of it will be seized. You folks are almost hilarious how people carrying over $10,000 USD are automatically a criminal and the money taken from them.
Well we all know how much you love the USD anyway. That's why you don't just print your own money with the
smiling faces of your leaders on the bills.

Stop being such a bold face liar! Not a damn thing go so. BVI Customs will only confiscate your money if it wasn't properly declared. You do know and appreciate we follow Money Laundering guidelines like the rest of the developing World, right? I can assure US Customs would do the same, its written boldly on their Customs form. So please stop piddling your nonsense on this platform and acting like the nincompoop everybody think you are. Btw, you aren't a tourist either! Never travel any further than shitty dog house you live next to. You have never been to the Virgin Islands least of all out of your own freaking City, much more the Country. So STHU and learn to mind your business and stop spreading propaganda.
