Negative! Results return for 3 persons in VI tested for Coronavirus
The Ministry made the confirmation on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, allaying fears that the virus, which is rapidly spreading globally, had reached these shores.
In a statement, Incident Commander of the Health Emergency Operations Centre Dr. Irad Potter reported that as of March 4, a total of three (3) British Virgin Islands residents were tested by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and all results were negative for the virus that causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.
“This includes a BVIslander who recently returned from an affected country and had remained quarantined at home in accordance with established protocols.”
According to the statement, no additional health information in relation to the testing of persons under investigation will be reported.
“However, the Ministry of Health and Social Development will continue to provide statistical updates and will alert the public immediately upon detection of the virus.”
COVID 19 scare
It was on Thursday, February 27, 2020 that Whatsapp voicenote began making the rounds on social media that the Virgin Islands may have its first Novel Coronavirus case.
Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) had then sought to dispel public fears via an emergency press conference.
“First of all we do not have a confirmed case of the Coronavirus, in the VI,” Premier Fahie declared.
Hon Fahie had confirmed that there was a local person who was displaying signs of the dreaded virus and that they were quarantined in an apartment in the Territory, “and those who have been in direct contact with the individual are also being tested.”
The Premier also said while some initial tests were conducted in the Territory, further tests were sent to the twin-island state of Trinidad and Tobago to ascertain whether the individual was positive with the virus.
Since then, Premier Fahie has approved $3M for the Territory’s response to the threats of COVID-19.
Global epidemic
Meanwhile, the virus has spread to more than 80 countries and territories across every continent except Antarctica.
Since it was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, major self-sustaining clusters have formed in South Korea, Japan -- which recorded its biggest one-day increase of cases on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, with 33 new patients identified -- parts of Europe, Iran and the United States.
The vast majority of cases, however, are still in mainland China. The country's National Health Commission (NHC) reported that as of the end of the day Wednesday, 3,012 people had died and 80,409 cases had been confirmed. More than 52,000 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, per the NHC.

Result now,Gov saying that all three (3)came back negative.
All three????. No acknowledgement that we were informed about ony 1. No explanation....nada..
If u believe and have faith in the honesty and integrity of this Gov..great but some ah we have to feel differently based on their actions, We not all cut from the same cloth. For me,I do not know whether or not there has been confirmed illness in the VI.and will never know. We were not informed that there were people with symptoms. I old so I done leave and gone far elsewhere for a timeout where Gov upfront and open with its people and the world. DR has a confirmed case and some suspicious cases. Tiny BVI have adirect flight to DR but the to and fro continues with DR ????
Let’s do the maths shall we
5 exposed persons
+ 1 Person traveled from China displaying symptoms =6
3 negatives results ?
