ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Referring to the incident as caused by “miscommunication”, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) has publicly apologised for an incident that resulted in passengers of a ferry encountering a locked gate at the Road Town Jetty on August 2, 2023.

Calling it unfortunate, the BVIPA in a press statement today, August 4, 2023, said the “unfortunate incident” resulted in the passengers having to find an alternative route off the dock.

“The incident was caused by a regrettable miscommunication, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and concern this may have caused to the affected passengers and our partners,” BVIPA stated.

‘Unforeseen miscommunication’

The Authority said due to “unforeseen miscommunication” between BVI Ports Authority and the Ferry Operator, the gate was unintentionally locked before its team could rectify the matter.

“We deeply regret this miscommunication, as it resulted in difficulties accessing our facilities during that time.”

BVIPA assured its customers that it understands the significance of this incident and its impact on passenger safety and convenience “and have taken steps to improve our communication channels with all relevant parties to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.”
