ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Our newsroom can confirm that the British Overseas Territory of the Virgin Islands’ longest serving Deputy Governor M. Elton Georges CMG, OBE has passed.

Confusion and misinformation circulated last week about his premature death; however, government officials and family members including current Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr, cleared the air by paying him a hospital visit, and announcing he was still alive.

The former Deputy Governor passed away early this morning, Thursday April 5, 2018 at the government-run Peebles Hospital in Road Town. He was 75 years of age, having been born on May 1, 1943.

Longest serving Deputy Governor

Mr Georges was the longest serving Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI). He served from 1983-2003 and then again from 2007-2008. The deceased also served as the Territory’s first Complaints Commissioner, from 2009-2015, a new constitutional post.

After his retirement from the civil service, he went into business and also served in 2015 as the Managing Director of the local operations of the desalination water company Seven Seas, a division of AquaVenture Holdings. The company had bought out Biwater’s operations on Tortola.

The late Mr Georges was also a community man and served as Chairman of the BVI’s Health and Wellness Advisory Council and President of the BVI Diabetes Association.

The deceased former Deputy Governor, a Methodist and earlier in his career a teacher and banker, held Degrees in Mathematics and Public Administration. He was married with two children.

Words before passing

Days before his passing, in a statement last week, he encouraged public servants and said, “I would like to say to the men and women serving in our Public Service, that you must be ones to help our Territory move out of our current state into an arena that spurs on growth, opportunities for Virgin Islanders, and services that treat one and all with dignity and respect.”

The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online offer our condolences to his immediate family and other loved ones.

  • Why are so many of our people dying suddenly (05/04/2018, 09:26) Like (38) Dislike (48) Reply
I agree that these 3 weather systems tested our spirits and fortitude. It is now becoming suspicious that so many of our people are dying suddenly WHO WERE NOT BEDRIDDEN ! ! !. I can no longer accept that it is stress and worry from rebuilding what we have lost. This is no longer a conspiracy theory. Something is afoot. Something is going on in the BVI and it is stealthily happening before our eyes without raising eyebrows. I recollect that it was said by an honorable member who was concerned that the governor wanted to be totally in charge of disaster management and now in the recent leaked letters from the FCO to the Premier, mention was made by the FCO representative about the Recovery and Development Agency having oversight of disaster matters or some control ...hhhhmmmm.... Folks...the new economic hitman weapon by the IMF/World Bank and UN is the use of disasters !!!! What is the connection to the sudden deaths of people with wealth of knowledge of local and global history, understanding of people deceptive ways, and who had a backbone means that once they are out of the way the take over would be easy. Remember that famous quote...those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. If peoples forget that they were enslaved and it takes about a generation of 30 years to forget, therefore, the new generation would not recognize that they are being enslaved. Do not get me wrong. This enslavement is no longer along racial lines anymore. There are good people among us from all races but are being used by evil forces. Do not get it twisted. This is a spiritual warfare against all races in this community. There are persons entering this country who are bringing items to do spiritual warfare from the demonic realm while some fake disaster relief personnel are doing their dirty deeds. They are bringing their amulets to do demonic work. This I know for a fact. Jehovah will reveal who they are. HE helped us through this storm and HE will do it again. Keep our spiritual eyes open.

I agree . But I have a hunch it could be one DG for another ....sacrifice/exchange...but people are spiritually blind so they will curse you out because they cannot see what others can in the spirit. We've got to plead the blood of Jesus over our lives daily. BVI is no longer what it used to be.
Rest in Peace Mr. Georges. Overall, he was a good man. Wish you were able to stick. aroundbit lonher.ad....condolences to the family.

You hit the nail right on the button. I see that you have been doing your research and your 3rd eye is open. TPTB made sure that Georges is no longer around to do his civil and God given right to call out foul if decisions are made that are not in the best interest of the service or the peoples of this country. Notice the rapidness of appointments of one. special liaison, then DG, unsuspecting illness found in former DG when admitted, visit by all 3 DG - current and former, former passes and the measuring rod is no longer around to call out foul when things done or said that are evil. Again, the takeover is in full swing. What was so important about April 1.

The are only two certainties in life, death and taxes. WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. Some as babies, some as centenarians, and lots in between. There may have been some extra deaths brought on by the stresses of last year. Conspiracy theories are only going to worry the gullible.
Mr Georges was a good man. Condolences to his faimly.

Tis now you noticing. When people want things envy and jealousy will make the say and do many things. The BVI borders have been infiltrated by many who want BVIslanders gone. 70% or more expats but only INDIGEONOUS BVISLANDERS DIEING, losing jobs, being bad mouthed by employers and other migrants? Damned right something is awry!
But careful dearies, the mistress more often than not eventually realizes that God don't like ugly.

This is only my take and I am only speaking for myself. I noticed that people of a certain age check into Pebbles and they never make it out. I am not saying that something is going on but, it makes you wonder. My grandparents were a certain age when they were admitted to Pebbles and they never make it out.

That is sooooo true. Check it out. So many of them go in and come out on a stretcher. Even if it's for something as simple as a little cold. That is why I am soo scared to see my family member go in the hospital. Is it that special medical care for elderly is lacking? Hope there is nothing sinister here, but it is verrrry scary indeed.

Cone on people stop with the melodrama! Eat healthy, exercise everyday, meditate. Especially in the senior years. Mr George's was on the heavy side. Watch the waistline!!! A precursor for many illnesses. Stress ( Wasnt/Isn't his building damaged) Why people would want to put themselves in these stressful positions I would never know. Me_ after retirement it's the beach for me living life like a tourist!!!!

@resident, I have known a few seniors that have done the same things that you mentioned in your comment. They get admitted for something simple and boom, they never make it out the Hospital. No one is being melodramatic. It just makes you start thinking why is it that people of a certain age rearly makes it out of the hospital when they check in.

Yes his buildings were damaged but the devastation of the storms are a perfect cover up for the number of prominent people and other industrious persons who are holders of history of the BVI, understanding of peoples psyche and the capability of deceivers. The take over has begun in earnest. People are not checking out of Peebles.

The Rotary Family of the BVI & wider Caribbean, especially the Rotary Club of Tortola has lost one of his finest. His entire life evolved around the Intern'l Rotary Motto: "Service above self". He was a mentor, a teacher, a very fair critic and a walking Encyclopedia - the void he left in the BVI can never be filled. Brother Elton, you have left this World, but will always live in our hearts. Rest in eternal peace until we meet again

To all we ask a lot of questions pertaining to Life and Death and because these are Questions we are not aware that it is possible to Formulate Questions incorrectly.
For instance if u ask a Person " Why were you Born they can never answer. However if u ask the Sane Person "Why were you (Born) to Exist. There are in fact quite a number of Answers...
