ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- While the country, his immediate family, friends, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and US Virgin Islands (USVI) officials are still in shock over the sudden passing of former legislator, businessman, patriot, father, husband, uncle and servant Mr Carvin Malone, sitting legislators are set to honour his legacy.

The House of Assembly (HoA) will convene a Special Setting for Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM to pay tribute to the late Mr Malone, who passed away on January 14, 2024, at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

Commitment to service

The deceased served as a legislator from 2019-2023. Three years of that he was the Minister for Health and Social Development under the Andrew A. Fahie Administration. The former legislator also served briefly on the Opposition bench.

Current members of the Fifth HoA will speak about their relationship with the late Malone and his contributions to the Territory in the Seventh Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth HoA.

Mr Malone wore many hats, including as a long-time President of the ruling VIP, a prominent businessman, and founder of Caribbean Basin Enterprises Inc and R & R Malone Complex, along with many other businesses.

He was a member of the Lion Clubs, a Methodist, and loved his country.

After an unsuccessful bid for a second term in office in the 2023 general elections, Mr Malone kept active with his One Virgin Islands Agenda platform where he set out to educate the public about options for self-determination and the UK's negative plans for the Overseas Territories.

Many other residents have hosted radio programmes dedicated to the memory of the late Malone.

It's our understanding that former legislator Malone will lay in state at the HoA Chambers on February 1, 2024, and the funeral service will be on February 2, 2024, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Mr Malone is survived by his wife Pernis and daughter Kirsten.

The HoA will be carried live on the House of Assembly VI Youtube; House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands Facebook; 780 AM ZBVI Radio; CBN-Radio (90.9 FM); FLOW TV Channel 101; and CCT TV Channel 291.

The posthumous recognition is awesome . However, the greatest thing and honour Virgin Islanders can do to honor him is a) develop some stones, b) get united, c) regain heart, d) put VI interests ahead of colonialists, e) find some pride, patriotism, nationality, f)regain rugged individualism, g) shed the division and polarization, h) commit to fighting the colonialism rising tide, etc. If we refuse and too chicken and feel comfortable with the current deplorable and undemocratic situations, etc why the hell even bother and just him easy and in external peace. May his memory live on.

Appropriate honours for a good servant of the BVI and a good man. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
