JvD Primary students relocated to Leonora Delville Primary on Tortola
In a letter to parents- seen by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO)- from Orlandette R. Crabbe, the Acting Chief Education Officer, it said following a meeting held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, a decision has been taken to have the students from Jost van Dyke Primary to commute to Tortola and attend school at Leonora Delville Primary from tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, to December 15, 2023.
The letter added that the Ministry of Education has carefully considered all stakeholders in making this decision and deems it important for parents to be cognisant of this arrangement.
As such, it said the ferry will leave Jost van Dyke daily at 8:15 AM and return at 3:45 PM. Ground transportation has been arranged to take the students and teachers from the ferry dock in West End to the school in Cappoon’s Bay and then back to the ferry dock in the afternoon.
Parents must take students to JvD ferry dock - Ministry
“Parents are responsible for getting the students to the ferry dock in Jost van Dyke and for collecting them from there by 4:00 PM daily. Students will wear their regular uniform. Note that arrangements are still being finalised for the preschool students. Parents will be informed of these arrangements soon,” the letter added.
CEO Crabbe in the letter added that the Ministry has already discussed the matter with the principal and staff of Leonora Delville Primary School, who welcome the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues and peers. We can assure you that your children's education will be enriched by this experience.
Parents on October 31, 2023, protested the “deplorable” condition of the school and took their children home after they were called by the Principal Mrs Lavern Blyden-Henry.
Parents say following a recent heavy rain that battered the territory, the school is now at its worst with leaking roofs, mold, and flooding in the yard.
A new school state of the art school is currently being constructed on Jost van Dyke; however, it is unclear how soon it will be finished for occupation.

In the days of old there were no motor vehicles and air condition classrooms and children did well at school. The Representative for the District 2 is very mischievous and trying to score cheap political points and as such he is mobilizing the parents to disrupt the children's education. Unless we are prepared to make sacrifice in this country, we will all have difficult times should there be any adverse economic condition.
#2. Has the Education Department put in the prosedures that if in such a Case( God forbids it does) where a sick Child, or moreso a Child comes down that warrants special or immediate attention for an urgent medical / surgical Procedures, are we equipt for effective facilitations
And lease if not stigmatising what if a Child for some reason or the other happens to stray away and is not around for the Bus(coming or returning, is there any kind of preventative measures in place?
I hope I have not bored anyone ,but I have Children and even grandchildren and if any of them had to traverse tese lands daily for the cause, I would not agree unless these measures as well as some others were sufficiently looked into.
Forget who was and who is, that is the only way the Children's minds will fully be developed..
We recently spent so much monies on that SAME building, and yet it is worship than it was before. We need to look at how We are spending Government funds(though We are the one's to pay back) and be more accountable for who We hand out theseGifts to.
That is a Barrier that must be penetrated and broken ..
You want to give your Friend a Gift, Christmas is universal .. step throwing these offers on your friends who are the MALE MOTHERS of the Society, they need no pamperring.
Are part of the issue. You all know it had other things that was a priority. However you’ll agreed a Wuk-up was more important. Wuk-up now and worry later.
