'I have not been made any promises or offers' - Hon Maduro-Caines

'I want what is best for VI' - Hon Maduro-Caines
"This decision [has] come out of deep thoughts and prayers over a prolonged period. I have not been made any promises or offers... nor have I asked for any. I simply want which is best for our Territory and I believe that what is best for the BVI at this time, is for all patriotic Virgin Islanders to be working together on one common goal, which is the betterment and security of these islands," Hon Maduro-Caines said as part of the announcement.
The shocking revelation came today, January 20, 2020, at a 3:00 pm special press conference at the Village Cay Hotel and Marina Conference Room. The historic event was also aired live on ZBVI 780AM and carried via the Premier's Special Projects Facebook page.
"I look forward to working with the members of the Government towards building a better, stronger BVI and towards creating and enabling an environment for our people," the third term legislator said in the closing of her statement.
Hon Maduro-Caines also called for no more strict allegiance along political party lines, and said she will work with the Honourable Fahie led VIP administration in several key aspects such as the economy, digital business and the Premier's green strategy vision to secure the future of the Territory.
NDP caught off guard?
Following the bombshell announcement, many were wondering what role the newest VIP member will play.
Premier Fahie was clear in pointing out that there are no more ministerial positions left in his government at this time; however, Hon Maduro-Caines can be a member of Government.
When questioned whether she held talks with her Sixth District constituents ahead of the decision to cross the floor, Hon Maduro-Caines said a few of her supporters were made aware of her intention to resign as a senior member of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and cross the floor, however, the NDP was not.
'Moving over to the Virgin Islands Party does not change me as a representative, it does not change me as a person, I will still be the same Alvera Maduro-Caines doing the work for the people and I do believe I would be able to accomplish more," she said.
No victimisation under VIP - Hon Fahie
Premier Fahie, the First District Representative, stated that when Hon Maduro-Caines was on the Opposition side, she was never stifled in terms of the distribution of resources and faced political victimisation like he was during the NDP's terms in government.
"Even with Hon Madiro-Caines joining, we will not be politically victimising the District... I sat in the Opposition for many years and I saw that happen in my case and I always got up in the House and say that I would never be a proponent of that," Premier Fahie said.
Hon Maduro-Caines' rejection of the NDP comes just eleven months after the party and its then embattled leader, Mr Myron V. Walwyn, were brutally ousted from office at the February 25, 2019, General Elections in the Virgin Islands.

Doesn't this seem strange ... He shouldn't NOT go just because she was a member of the opposition and now will go because she is a member of the ruling party? Face it, none on the politicians are for ALL the people ... they are for their people!!!
On a side note: Who submits their resignation on WhatsApp? Especially a high ranking government official. Very unprofessional!
