Hymns written by local author Verna Penn Moll launched

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two hymns written by Virgin Islands author Verna Penn Moll during this COVID-19 pandemic have been composed and launched with the hope of offering inspiration during this global crisis.

The hymns, ‘Scattered, Yet Together’ and ‘I Am Shaking, Shaking, Shaking Up’ were written by Mrs Penn Moll, an ardent Methodist, and composed by Mr Richard M. S. Irwin of England.

The hymns were released in May 2020.

Music written during COVID-19 crisis

“Scattered, Yet Together is a lovely hymn for all occasions, but especially suitable for Pentecost,” Mr Irwin stated in a press release to Virgin Islands News Online.

He added that ‘I Am Shaking, Shaking, Shaking Up’was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic with words based on Haggai 6: 2-7 and Hebrews 12: 27.

“It is set to a new tune, “Draycot, by Richard Irwin,” Mr Irwin said, adding that both hymns were written during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis.

“The music,” says the Composer and Arranger, “was already written in Verna’s words.”

    It is wonderful to get a respite from the issues I face in New York City. Verna’s hymn gave me pause and provided a spiritual way of coping. I appreciate the article and the hymn took my mind away from a feeling of hopelessness. Glad the words of the hymn will reach a wide audience.

    Mrs Verna Penn Moll has a heart of love and is full of grace. She is very talented and has a world of knowledge and wisdom. I've enjoyed reading many of her books and know this will be another beautiful addition. Thanks for blessing us in a period where hope,, grace and love is needed.

    I love the lyrics, scattered but all facing the same pandemic together, the Lord is with us and that is comforting, Shaking is so powerful, this pandemic is dynamic and we see the Lord holding on to us as shaking going on, COVID 19 has a message for us all to take a step back and see God in our lives.
