Hon Rymer joins in celebrating VI's Air Traffic Controllers
In honour of this significant occasion, the Authority hosted a special recognition ceremony on October 18, 2024, to express its gratitude and recognise the invaluable contributions these professionals make to the aviation industry.
According to a BVIAA press release, Minister of Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), praised the Controllers for their essential role in ensuring the safety of the airspace in the Virgin Islands.

"Today, we recognise the men and women who, often behind the scenes, maintain the flow of air traffic in and out of our airports. Air Traffic Controllers are the guardians of our skies, and their work is nothing short of heroic. Their professionalism, precision, and calm under pressure allow travellers to safely reach their destinations. The Government of the Virgin Islands extends its deepest gratitude to you all," Hon Rymer stated.
Chairman of the Board, Mr Theodore E. Burke, also shared his heartfelt appreciation for the Controllers, stating, "Air Traffic Controllers are the heartbeat of any airport operation. Your ability to maintain order in an environment that demands quick decision-making and focus is truly remarkable. The Authority indeed thanks you for your invaluable service and dedication, and for playing such a critical role in making our airports safe and reliable."
'Vital role'
Meanwhile, Managing Director of the BVIAA, Mr Kurt A. G. Menal, emphasised the importance of recognising the contributions of Air Traffic Controllers, highlighting how crucial they are to the continued success of the industry.
"Your role is vital to the operations of the Authority, and we are honoured to celebrate you. It is your expertise, precision, and dedication that make safe air travel possible. The entire aviation community relies on your skill, and today we say a heartfelt thank you for your continued commitment to excellence and safety, and for the vital role you play, in keeping the Territory connected to the world," Mr Menal stated.
Director of People and Culture, Dawn U. Leonard also added her sentiments, recognising the personal commitment each controller brings to their role.
The Air Traffic Controllers were each presented with a special token of appreciation from the Authority, symbolising their commitment to upholding the highest standards of air safety and their unwavering dedication to the profession.
