Gov't to review public officers salaries with aim to pay 'what they are worth'
Premier Fahie made the declaration during the handover and rededication ceremony of the John E. George Administration Building in North Sound, Virgin Gorda.
“Now I know some listening would say alright what does that have to do with this building? We could get more buildings once we pay people properly. We will have people coming back home because they would realise that their talents and the money they have spent getting a degree is now worth it. It’s going to be asked why do that during COVID-19 when money is tight? But we are a people of faith; you don’t prepare for when it gets better, you prepare to get better,” he added.
The Leader of Government Business said the review would take between six months to a year to get done.

In the meantime, the building, which sustained damages during the 2017 weather events, was renovated by Quality Construction Limited to the tune of $625,400 and was completed in nine months.
The building was rededicated in honour of Mr John E. George, Sr, MBE, who served for many years as the Post Master, Registrar of Births and Deaths, and government agent for the North Sound Community.
According to a press release, the project executed under the Territory’s Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan (RRL) was handed over from the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) to the Deputy Governor.
Building finally here!
“I want to thank the people of Virgin Gorda for your patience. You all take a lot of knockabout over the years for this building, but its finally here,” Premier Fahie said of the building.
Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration and Ninth District Representative, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley commented that it was “so fitting that February, which is Black History Month, that we name a building in honour of a local hero, Mr John E. George, MBE.
“Mr George’s life epitomises what service and commitment are to our community. Mr George worked really, really hard,” he said.
Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr said the late honouree was the father of nine, was well-liked and full of humour and “Anyone that can make someone laugh is always going to be a favourite to everyone around.”

Airport and Hospital long overdue for a overhaul.
So much risk yet so little reward...
And, at what guage would that be determined?
This could be a form of political retribution where those on the opposition could be skewed, and determined to be much lower than normal!
This needs an independent review body to be truly effective and fair!
Seems to me more likely that there is a need to lower the salaries or the amount of Gov emloyees.
I'm talking from ndp admin that keep being promised to be paid. VIP government went in promising to pay those back log and only one was sent. And now you saying you going to pay people according to what they deserve.
If you keep using people and playing with their emotions eventually they will snap.
These politicians fail to understand we working hard to maintain our jobs and now this.
If I find my pay drop I want all my back pay one time that I did not get.
Note
Before hon fahie ask if we want our increments or our jobs.
