ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Former 'Hard Talk' radio host and Social Commentator Julio S. Henry aka 'Sam' has now been appointed Chairman of the British Virgin Islands Scholarship Committee and with that, the talk show host said he has big plans to promote locals and build entrepreneurship across the Territory.

The decision to appoint Henry as the Chairman of the Committee came to light in the post-cabinet meeting statements of  January 29, 2020, where H.E. the Governor, Mr Augustus J. U. Jaspert chaired the meeting held at the Premier's Conference Room, Hon Ralph T. O'Neal Administration Building.

All Members with the exception of Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R7), were present for the meeting where a number of persons were appointed as members of the committee for a period of three (3) years with effect from January 15, 2020.

Building entrepreneurship 

Speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), Mr Henry said with his new role, he plans to really put locals at the forefront of new opportunities to build their success.

"I plan on working very closely with the Government and Education Ministry to promote persons throughout the BVI and help them to get to the next level... to be more competitive, to build on the success of the BVI, to build entrepreneurship," he said.

When questioned on existing policies moving forward, he said the new committee is awaiting Government to revise the policies; however, for now, he said, "there is a good process in place that we will work with."

More Members appointed 

Others persons appointed on the committee are Mrs Patricia Archibald-Bowers, Ms Sharia B. de Castro, Mr Richard C. de Castro, Ms Livia Freeman, Dr June M. Samuel, Mr Khoy Smith and Ms Shaina M. Smith, along with Ms Rekeema S. Turnbull.

Mrs Kishan Cupid-Brathwaite is an Ex Officio Member representing the Department of Labour and Workforce Development, Ms Kaisa Penn is an Ex Officio Member, representing the Department of Human Resources and Ms Sasha D. A. Flax is an Ex Officio Member, representing the Sister Islands.

The committee also comprises a representative and Scholarship Manager from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture.

      Keep him quiet how? That make sense? You ever hear the saying one monkey don't stop no show. Everything is a conspiracy to you people that got no life. If you said its was cronyism I could agree with you but the whole silent thing is just going overboard.
