Former T&T Prime Minister Patrick A. M. Manning is dead!

On Friday, his wife, Hazel A. Manning confirmed that her husband had been suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was being prepared to undergo treatment.
According to our newsroom’s correspondent in Port of Spain, the twin island’s capital city, at 8:15 AM today (Saturday) former Prime Minister Manning passed away peacefully at the San Fernando General Hospital after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Manning, 69, who served as Prime Minister on two occasions, between 1991-2010, suffered a stroke in 2012 and had received medical attention in the United States. He did not contest the September 7, 2015 general election that saw his People’s National Movement return to power, ousting the Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s five party coalition called the People’s Partnership.

In 2010 under the Virgin Islands Party Administration, the late Prime Minister’s eldest son Brian Manning made a business trip to the Virgin Islands to meet with then Minister for Communications and Works and now Leader of the Opposition Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3).
Young Manning in 2010 met with Hon Fraser, then Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works Julian Willock and other senior government officials and members of the private sector on investment exchanges in both the Virgin Islands (VI) and Trinidad and Tobago.
The late Prime Minister’s son also paid a courtesy call on the then Premier of the VI, Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE where he brought personal greetings from his dad, the then Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Manning.
As of publication time there has been no reaction from the Dr Smith led National Democratic Party Government on the passing of the twin island state’s former Prime Minister Manning.
