FLORIDA, USA – President of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Ms Michelle Paige following a meeting with Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has committed to having the Virgin Islands (VI) be one of the first recipients of cruise ships in the region.

This decision comes after Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Fahie met with Ms Paige on June 3, 2021, to discuss a safe return of the cruise industry to the British Virgin Islands.

FCCA wants locals to benefit the most – Ms Paige

According to the Premier, he was pleased to have had a thorough discussion with the FCCA to fine-tune what the cruising experience in the VI will be like post COVID-19.

“We are not just looking at the return of the ships to the Virgin Islands. But, also about how Virgin Islanders and residents have a stake in the industry through employment with cruise liners and potential entrepreneurial ventures,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms Paige also pledged her commitment to allowing the people of the VI to reap the full benefits of cruise tourism.

“The ships will be staying longer, to be able to penetrate having the passengers having a more in-depth stay in the BVI,” she said.

Share your customs & Culture – BVIslanders urged

She also advised locals to give the tourist an experience that underlines what is unique and special about the VI including its culture, customs and foods and all things produced in the territory.

“This is your time to shine because Happy passengers spend money, those passengers will have a phenomenal time and will want to come back time and time again as hotel guests,” she said.

Ms. Paige also noted that she was pleased to work along diligently with Premier Fahie to be able to have the people of the VI benefit fully from the industry.

This meeting makes sense, it will allow the BVI Taxpayers to foot the bill for Fahie's holiday to the US.

Read his words very carefully.... “ fine-tune what the cruising experience in the VI will be like post COVID-19.”

You understand that this is not happening any time soon and potentially a first indication that no cruise ship is coming this season.

Past COVID-19 is an unknown or defined period. Bvi protocols are anything like post COVID 19 or anywhere close to it.

In other words, they agreed nothing can be done at the moment.

That should be the headline not the spin he gave that essentially says ... it’s going to suck but one day it will be much better...l yep, tell that to your bank manager...

But Premier, with your need to create cruise tourist "bubbles", how can all Virgin Islanders benefit from such a pronouncement by Ms. Paige?

THIS is why, this "bubble" thing, needs to be sort out in its entirety before anything is implemented!

In its current form, certainly not a win-win for all of us!
