Cuban medical professionals arrive in VI
Initially scheduled to arrive on Thursday, July 23, 2020, the medical professionals comprising one (1) administrator, nine (9) nurses and twelve (12) doctors disembarked an InterCaribbean flight on Beef Island today, where they were immediately temperature checked and will be subjected to COVID-19 tests as standard procedure for anyone arriving in the VI.
The Cuban professional will also be placed into mandatory 14-day quarantine, beginning today before they are deployed into the VI community to commence their medical support services.
'Historic Day' for VI - Hon Fahie
Offering an official welcome to the medical team, Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) thanked the Government of Cuba on behalf of the People of the Virgin Islands for what he called a 'historic day' and landing as part of a long history of partnerships between the two countries.
"We are glad to have you to be able to complement and also help us to upgrade what we have here already," Hon Fahie said.
Although the Virgin Islands has no active reported cases of COVID-19; Premier Fahie explained that the assistance of the Cubans was requested in an effort to augment the capacity of the team of Health Care professionals currently at the BVI Health Services Authority.
Strengthening ties
Hon Fahie said at the end of the tenure, ties will be strengthened with Cuba learning from the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands learning from Cuba and the team will ensure that the Territory is able to deal with any situation which may occur as Government continues its phased re-opening of the borders.
Present at the welcoming ceremony was also Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) who thanked the Cubans and offered well wishes for a fruitful and productive stay in the territory.

Need to block the negative comments about island people like et ight now. This stiff is being viewed all over the world. And in a small place this sad as nd uneducated behavior.
I humbly ask that you make it the Law that all these blog sites make it mandatory to post names and email addresses (after being verified) of every blogger. Please Mr. Premier. Then the hateful blogs will stop. I am a BVIslander and the amount of hateful words posted on these sites is so disgusting. At times it makes me ashamed to be a BVIslander. Not good at all.
