ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that a cruelty to a child court case against Stacie T. Stoutt-James, a former Division Head of Family, Children & Protective Services, and Ishmael Stoutt, has been discontinued at the Magistrates Court of the Virgin Islands (VI).

A notice of discontinuance was filed in the Magistrate's Court of the Virgin Islands on March 22, 2024.

The case was discontinued pursuant to section 59(2)(c) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007, against the two who were charged with the offence of Cruelty to a Child contrary to section 192(1)(b) of the Criminal Code 1997 (as amended) of the Laws of the Virgin Islands.

The case was between the Commissioner of Police and the two, however, it remains unclear the details of the case.

Ms James has also worked as a Senior Social Worker in the Social Development Department and has been vocal against child abuse.

Efforts to get a comment from Stoutt's attorney proved futile.
