BVI Diabetes Association annual Elton George's Run/Walk a success
The event began with participants convening at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park. From there, everyone embarked on a spirited walk to the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School in Sea Cows Bay and back. The picturesque journey along the coastline provided breathtaking views, fostering a sense of unity and accomplishment.
One of the highlights of the event was the unexpected arrival of a visiting cruise at the pier. Tourists on board generously contributed to support the association's mission, further underscoring the global significance of diabetes awareness and advocacy.
A healthy breakfast was served to all participants after the walk, emphasizing the importance of good nutrition and a balanced lifestyle in managing diabetes.
The BVI Diabetes Association has an exciting lineup of activities for the month of November, including World Diabetes Day, "Paint the Town Blue," "Sneaker Day," and a unique "Cocktails with a Twist" event at the Governor's House. These events aim to raise awareness and engage the community in the fight against diabetes.
Dr. Sharlon Lewis, President of the association, expressed her satisfaction with the event's turnout, particularly the enthusiastic participation of the youth.
She encouraged everyone to continue their efforts in raising awareness and combating diabetes, saying, "Today was a success, and we were happy with the youth, especially that came out. Continue to beat the sweet."
The BVI Diabetes Association remains committed to its mission of preventing and managing diabetes and is grateful for the support and participation of the community. Together, they look forward to a future free from the challenges posed by diabetes.
