Aircraft runs off airstrip at Anegada
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 11:00 when it was said that a tyre of aircraft suffered a blowout and caused the plane to go out of control and off the airstrip.
This news site understands that no injuries occurred as a result of the mishap and that there were no passengers on board the plane as it was making an arrival to transport passengers from Anegada to St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.
It is also reported that the plane did not sustain any damage other than the punctured tyre. According to a source close to one of the passengers the Fire Service at Anegada should be complimented as their response was highly commendable.
The source also said that in less than an hour a substitute aircraft had arrived to transport the passengers.
This news site also understands that the accident occurred in the presence of officials from Air Safety Support International (ASSI) who were about to board a flight to Virgin Gorda.
Virgin Islands News Online made contact with the BVI Airport Authority and a response was promised.
This news site had reported a similar incident which had occurred at the same airport back in 2012. It was an aircraft belonging to Fly BVI that had suffered a blowout on December 21, 2012. In that instance too the pilot was reportedly the lone person in the aircraft, which was returning to Anegada to pick up passengers on the sister island.
