900 benefit from FSN food assistance programme
For the past four weeks, our staff and team of dedicated volunteers have been partnering with the government of the Virgin Islands to offset the challenges of providing food and essential supplies to residents across the islands.
The FSN is an advocacy group that provides counselling and other support to victims of domestic violence.
FSN depends largely on the generosity of donors and remains very grateful to all who contribute in cash or kind.
“We are still very mindful that our clients must be provided for and we continue to do that,” said FSN’s President, Ms. Judith Charles. “However, we have seen a tremendous surge in the number of persons crying out for help because of this pandemic and we have risen to the challenge as best we can.”
The Family Support Network has distributed food to over 900 persons since the end of March.
Ms. Charles said with the extended curfew until April 29th, the FSN’s Food Programme will continue to provide for the needs of its registered clients.
Persons who have become unemployed as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, persons with health challenges and families with limited funds who have children under 12 years old, should contact the Social Development Department, who will perform appropriate screening in collaboration with District Representatives, to ensure that help is provided to the most vulnerable.
FSN will then contact the persons to make delivery arrangements on a fixed schedule as follows:
Monday – Western end of Tortola (Below Sea Cows Bay)
Tuesday – Central Tortola (Sea Cows Bay to Fish Bay)
Wednesday – Eastern end of Tortola (East of Fish Bay)
Thursday – Along the Ridge Road (East to West)
Friday – Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada
