6 shot, 3 dead in St Thomas weekend shootings
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI— St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) experienced a wave of violent crime over the weekend, including a shooting incident at the Starz Hotel that left four people shot and two dead.
The shooting at the Starz Hotel occurred Sunday night, December 22, 2019, at about 8:50 pm while another shooting occurred Saturday morning, December 21, 2019, at about 11:50 am in Nadir Circle.
Nadir Homicide
According to [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Toby Derima, the police force was notified of the shooting in Nadir Circle and immediately responded. Mr Derima said detectives found an unresponsive male in the roadway with gunshot wounds about his body. A female victim was also struck by gunfire and was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
The male victim, identified as 27-year-old Jackeel L. Henry, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Starz Hotel Shooting
The VIPD confirmed Sunday night that four people were shot at the Starz Hotel in Contant. Mr Derima said the 911 emergency call center was notified of the incident at 8:50 pm.
According to police, two of the victims — police have yet to identify gender — were pronounced dead as a result of the shooting. Mr Derima said there was no immediate status of the other victims’ conditions.
Both cases are under investigation by the VIPD's Major Crimes Unit.
