SABA ROCK, VI- Four recent graduates from the Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda are engaged in a three-week internship with the Saba Rock Resort.

According to the Government Information Service (GIS), this marks the second collaboration between the Department of Labour and Workforce Development and the resort, aimed at advancing youth development by providing meaningful exposure to real-world work environments.

The interns will gain hands-on experience in the hospitality industry and develop critical soft skills.

The partnership, according to GIS, is already bearing fruit, with a former intern securing a head hostess job at a top resort in the Virgin Islands.

Wonderful news. This should be the norm and not require a photo-op with three persons from Labour. Labour should be looking out for our students as they graduate from all schools. Have a job fair and see how many of those positions they can fill. But, no, somebody told them that they are in the business of brining in workers only. How sad.

But I digressed because of the photo. The mere fact that they had to take that photo is indicative that this is a novel idea and rarely done.

I encourage these ex BFEC students to put forward your absolute best and be sponges. Learn as much as you can, be respectful and put down your phones. When you have completed a task with excellence, of course, offer to assist somewhere else. Unfortunately, you are competing with persons even from Asia in your little country. Be brave, make us proud.
