22-yr-old local denied bail for E&B store robbery
The local man, according to Crown Counsel O’Neal Simpson, together with persons unknown on March 24, 2020, robbed the store of approximately $300 of its earnings.
A gold chain valued $400 was also taken from an employee during the robbery.
Children were also in store
Mr Simpson related that on the day in question, the owner and his family, including his young grandchildren, were inside the store, along with two employees, when the armed men wearing dark clothing entered the store.
Upon entering the store, the first robber headed to the counter and aimed a firearm at the employee while demanding cash.
The employee opened the cash register and stood back while the robber helped himself by filling his pockets with the cash.
The second robber followed the second employee to the back of the store, and pointed the firearm in his direction and snatched a gold chain he was wearing.
He then went to the back of the store where the office is located and upon realising the door was closed he joined his accomplice at the checkout counter.
Unknowing to him, the owner had locked the door to protect his family who were inside the office.
Crime caught on camera
When the second robber went to the checkout counter, he used the glove to wipe the area where the first robber had come into contact.
During the investigation, police were able to lift latex fingerprints off the surface of the store and it was later matched to the accused who provided his fingerprints to police during an interview.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage was also extracted and police were able to see what happened.
As a result of the findings, Thompson was asked to conduct a third interview, and he agreed. During the interview, he was informed of the findings but maintained he was not involved.
He was then charged for the offence before the court.
Bail refused
According to the prosecution, the defendant has no previous antecedents; however, because of the type of matter, and the ongoing investigation, bail was denied.
Mr Thompson is to return to court on May 28, 2020, for Paper Committal.
The matter is heading to the high court for trial.
