2 more COVID-19 cases as total recoveries jump to 61- Hon Malone

-20 results pending with just 9 active cases in Territory
Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) during a presentation at the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA) today September 22, 2020, said that as of September 21, 2020, after conducting PCR testing on 4,546 individuals at the Dr D. Orlando Smith laboratory, a total of 4,455 persons tested negative, 71 were positive, and 20 results remain pending. Photo: HoA/Youtube
These rates have no-doubt paved the way for the territory to re-open its borders to tourists on December 21, 2020, as announced by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), who also noted that scientific testing and technology will guide the re-opening in the era of COVID-19. Photo: GIS/Facebook

DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – The Virgin Islands has recorded two more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases in the Territory to 71. This is an increase of just 2 from the previously recorded 69 total cases on September 16, 2020.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), during a presentation at the Fourteenth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom today, September 22, 2020, said that as of September 21, 2020, after conducting PCR testing on 4,546 individuals at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital laboratory, a total of 4,455 persons tested negative, 71 were positive, and 20 results remain pending.

“Of this amount, 61 persons (or 86%) have now recovered, 1 person (or 1%) has died, and 9 cases (or 13%) remain active,” Hon Malone went on to say.

Meanwhile, no information was provided on the source of the new cases.

Increased recoveries

While the Minister did place much emphasis on the new cases, the results form part of recent trends where health authorities have been recording a drop in new cases and increases in recovery of previous COVID-19 cases.

These rates have no-doubt paved the way for the Territory to re-open its borders to tourists on December 1, 2020, as announced by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), who also noted that scientific testing and technology will guide the re-opening in the era of COVID-19.

The decision to reopen the borders to tourists comes on the heel of a previous announcement from Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) to re-open physical schools as a result of improved management of the COVID-19 situation in the Territory.

Mr Malone you are doing a good job i hope we donot have to close down again but do your best in hlping to heal the land. You need to continue to have te testing of people especially the outsoders Span... P..... yjeu do not hear not to congrate and bring people to live in their apartments. They are ialing people in there apartment when they should not be there this is happening in the eastern areas and they are mot letting their land lord knoe until they get catch this is an area the immigration department needs to look into/ The spartment is rent to two persons and they bring in more people to stay there.Let them continue many of them who are renting will come home one day and meet their locks changed because people had issue so we spoke to our tennants we do not want that type of behaviour which can help spread COVID in the village or neighbourhood. Land lords if you see this type of actions raise your rent especially if you talk about it many times. Tennants need to stop their SHIT because there are landlords who will throw them out at mid night Help STOP THE FLOW OF COVID19 . My son had pronlems with people brining people in the apartment well since COVID came he got rid of them one time People donot forget the house is not yours keep COVID IS NO RESPECTOR OF PERSON so Mr malone that is some thing you need to preach on

The virus is not going away anytime soon. All we can do is just try to follow the protocol and wash your hands, social distance and wear your masks properly.....I've observed people strolling into supermarkets without wearing their masks properly and the staff having to keep telling the customer to put on the mask(same customer) ...people are too darn stubborn SMH

Medical privacy or health privacy is the practice of maintaining the security and confidentiality of patient records. It involves both the conversational discretion of health care providers and the security of medical records.

Why people around here feel they are entitled to know who has Covid-19 virus? They always in other people’s business, you can’t even post a status on WhatsApp without some Of them screenshot and sending it around the place.

Ever heard of a thing call statistics? Which post do you see asking for names? You too fast to comment. How is this violating privacy? Other countries provide this basic information and so has BVI Govt recently.

The effort of the Govt. should be highly commended. Saddly many persons are showing disregard ignorantly and arrogantly to the dangers covid-19 poses against. I truly believe that the Govt. should become searious in inforcing the laws, so that we will be more acceptance to the Dec. 1, 2020 borders openning plan. Why are there so few police seen, espeacially in areas they need to. I am trying to say that the law inforcement body is not doing a much higher than average job, but much more could be done. Also the citizens of the Bvi should co-opperate more with them, for the good of all. If we are co-opperating for good, then, we are separated. A divided people are a defeated people. Remember, it take strength to climb a ladder, but none to fall from one. Let us act responcibly, and do righteous deeds daily for the good of all person that live among us, and those that don't.

Those people who like staying home and getting paid.. They happy,. They don't really care about the country, they just don't want to go to work and still get pay.. They will be all over blogging chatting lock the place down,. We ain't ready to open yet...This just don't happen in the BVI it happens all over the Caribbean, but leadership is the difference,. Those other Caribbean country they know they have a country to run and an economy to sustain... They ignore the lock down don't open crowd, Put their plans in action they are open and doing well...Yes.. Leadership matters...

As a law biding citizen, i was surprised to see how a female auxiliary police approached someone in right way parking Lot and gave a lady a "Covid Ticket". What amazed me the lady was on her phone with the mask pulled down and no one was closed by ; Here came Auxiliary police with her ticket book and informed the lady that she broke the law and gave her a ticket. After the auxiliary left , i was told by the lady that she is asthmatic and unable to keep the mask on too long. Having seen that i went and read the legislation pertaining to the covid ticket and realized that the auxiliary action was inappropriate and inconsiderate. I am calling on the Top Cop to train these officers specially on the new legislation so they can understand how to use it. There is no difference by allowing an untrained officer to carry a gun and allowing an untrained officer to enforce the law.
With due respect , permit to describe the Auxiliary for the benefit of the public. She is short , tick , short hair, leggy like a "gorilla". She is always an other black female officer in a mark police Jeep. Please give her some training.

I’m just curious please ministers why a person has to pay 24 hour security upon returning from abroad. I can see being accountable from 5 am to 5 pm but after that everyone has to remain indoors due to our curfew. The issue of expensive night time security costs needs reviewing otherwise why not charge everyone to stay home at night ?
