ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A video has been circulating of a young male allegedly confessing to breaking into Yo Mama Kitchen.

The food vending establishment located on Wickham’s Cay 1, Tortola, was broken into on April 18, 2021.

According to reports, nothing was stolen; however, security cameras were disabled.

In the video, which began making the rounds on social media today, April 20, 2021, shows a young male, possibly in his teens, allegedly admitting to the crime.

“Yes I went to Yo Mama, I went in it,” the person in the video utters amid obvious discomfort.

It is unclear of the young man was beaten.

The video also shows a black and white image of someone caught on security camera; however, it is unclear if it is the person reportedly confessing in the video as the person’s face appeared to be covered. It is also unclear whether the image was taken from surveillance cameras at Yo Mama Kitchen.

The youth also said other persons had committed the other burglaries recently.

A gas station was also burglarised on Wickham's Cay 1 on April 18, 2021. A small amount of cash was reportedly taken.

Opposition Leader condemns ‘vigilante justice’

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), speaking during the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) today, said he had seen the video and lamented that the person appeared to just be a teenager.

“This morning I woke up to a WhatsApp message of a young man, and I looked at his face, the young man can’t be no more than 15 or 16 years old, admitting to one of the robberies that recently happened in Road Town.”

Hon Penn also said it appears there is some kind of “vigilante justice” being meted out in the Virgin Islands.

“…and he was there admitting to the crime at Yo Mama and also naming others for some of the additional robberies throughout this territory.

“I in no way condone any type of vigilante justice in this territory. We need to find a way to create a safe way for persons to report crime in the territory.”

He said the most troubling part; however, is the age of the young man in the video.

Meanwhile, Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton did not respond to our request for a comment on the video and alleged confession.

These idiots who damage the cameras obviously don't know how they work. The cameras record everything into your main setup system and store it. You can be at home and see who is there or you can see it on your cell phone from any location on the island. Breaking the cameras do not stop the video from being seen and alert the owners. These videos are stored and the thieves can be seen while the owner notify the police they are there. I hope everyone gets cameras! I can see every angle around my property and zoom in. Some cameras are fantastic and some cameras cannot even be seen.

well that what you get for allowing people on work permits to bring their children here when work permits are for 1 year only, they should never have been allowed to be in the public school system and this is where most, not all the crime problems come from, their parents have to work in lower paid jobs and do not control their children as they prefer to get the latest phone to look cool. Haters begin!

To know that an excessive number of thieves and murderers against their Brothers and Sisters from the Motherland, are centered in specific areas of the Caribbean is the real crime. An undisputed fact!!!

They might be a stigma BVI..Either one or both parents are from the killing fields beyond our waters.
Bring BVI goes a lot deeper than happenstance birth.

I am a peaceful person. However,
If something is not done soon in the BVI there is going to be a lot of SHAFTs protecting their own.

The senseless murder of that gentle innocent woman has persons ready to defend themselves, property and family.

What have the law done for us lately?

The Police and Government needs to start publicly reassuring persons ( if at all possible - many murders short and robberies too late) that they are present active in the communities and that law and order is alive in the BVI.

Marlon could stop their talking stupidness, he's not a victim & would never be able to understand what the families are going through who have been violated, s****** J******** will prevail, everybody has lost faith in the justice system. From the police go right down to the court house. Soon losing faith in the elected officials.
