Work permit holders to pay for Gov't quarantine
Hon Malone was at the time responding to questions from Opposition Leader, Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8) at yesterday's June 19, 2020, Tenth Sitting of the Second session of the Fourth House of Assembly in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.
He said work permit holders would have to "underwrite the cost of the quarantine services", now to be only carried out at a government facility, however, he did not say the reason for the decision or the estimated costs for the service.
20 persons to be released this week
Hon Malone also revealed that a total of twenty (20) returning nationals and residents will rejoin the Virgin Islands community this week after completing 14 days in quarantine and testing negative for the virus.
"Three (3) returnees were tested on Wednesday and an additional seventeen (17) on Thursday; all of whom are being issued Quarantine Release Certificates today, Friday 19th June."
He said the 20 is from the first batch of 200 passengers who have arrived from overseas since the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport was reopened to inbound commercial flights on June 2, 2020.
"An additional seventy-one (71) persons are expected to arrive by the end of June and will complete the 14-day quarantine and testing for COVID-19, as part of the Government’s efforts to limit the spread of the disease," he said.
557 registration requests submitted
Hon Malone said over five hundred and fifty-seven (557) registration requests have been submitted to date for nationals, belongers, holders of permanent residence and naturalised citizens returning home to the Territory.
VI nationals and holders of certificates of residence who wish to return to the VI during the re-entry period are encouraged to register early by visiting www.bvitravel.vg.

We don’t think negative like all you who are not born on st Thomas u only coming here to shop if trump get back in that will change when he was going to do all u bowl it coming again ayo not @#$&** good
Stop your sh*t I from I here and my wife is a Island woman so how you mean we Don't like island people you mean you don't like island people.
You are racist! Think before you comment. Are you not watching the news? Racism is not acceptable!
quarantine cost themselves. Every country should take care of their nationals. In this case it is not discrimination it is about conserving resources.
Let them i**** p**** pay govt should only be responsible for their locals
Them i***** p**** here so ungrateful be lucky y’all could come back in to live because if it was me y’all wasn’t coming back
And then they want March and support them with rallies... about black lives matter. Hypocrites
I***** p***** the most wicked let them pay
Them i***** p***** just disgust me complain about everything
Illiterate $***t. You from a f*** Continent na.
If them island down the island did it they wouldn’t of said nothing just because is the bvi. Yes let them pay for themselves
Secondly, work permit persons already have apartments that they are paying for and you are moving them from the comfort of their homes and telling them that they still have to pay!!!! Are you serious? have you really thought that through?
Work with them, perhaps they could pay for food at least, let the BVI BE BLESSED.
Let me hear y’all go St Vincent, Jamaica and others Caribbean countries and tell the leaders there foot the tab for work permit holders.
what reason has been given for this ....work permit hokders contribute financially just as much as non workpermit holders...in fact..guven the 7% tax on moneygram to " capture" some money from all of the " work permited people who sendd monies overseas" it is arguable that they xontribure more financially.
this is wrong and a mis step against the one burning topic which we are all wrapped up in and that is discrimination.
mostt permit holders cant afford to spend a holidy at an hotel for 2 weeks...how are they expected to do this.
seems to me this is an indirect way to disuade permit holders from returning...
i hope on reflection there will be an easing on this decision.
respectfully submitted
One thing i can't stand to hear, is when you all say if you leave who will do the work and live in apartments. We will that's who and we can rent them to tourist and find some other way to make money as we always do, there's also lots of VI people abroad who can come home. You all compose that song to get the jobs and try to keep us down. You all come here with your mooning charms to get your way and literally get rid of anyone who is in you way blocking you'all from the great and powerful us dollars. Some have to run to save their lives. once you all come here, there's no going back. The biggest crane in the BVI can't get you move. smdh. You all want to deprive locals of their rights, you want any and everything that you didn't stand half a chance of acquiring back where your from, that's why you are here in the first place.
If you are not of BVI heritage, then you are privileged to be here, IT'S NOT YOUR BIRTH RIGHT, soooooooooo comply with the laws and quit complaining, or go back to your birth right country, complain and demand a job and better standard of living that is tax free and bills free for you to enjoy as a privilege national and let the BVI people do there thing. Since you not happy with the requirements here, maybe if you go a BVIslander could come back home and get a job
